I ran a utility which showed the above as an installed (hidden) program, but I cannot locate the critter to uninstall it. (I use no Google products.) I would appreciate any help in dealing with the critter. Thank you.
What software showed it as a hidden program? Perhaps, it was uninstalled at some point, but some traces are left behind.
MiniToolBox by Farbar Version: 17-06-2016, shows """Google Update Helper (HKLM-x32\...\{A92DAB39-4E2C-4304-9AB6-BC44E68B55E2}) (Version: 1.3.21.115 - Google Inc.) Hidden,""" but it does not show in Control Panel/Programs.
I just ran MiniToolBox and I have the same registry key, but just like you, I have no entry for it in Add/Remove Programs. Since you're not using any Google programs, you will have no use for it. You can remove it using Microsoft's Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter. https://support.microsoft.com/en-au...lock-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed Download and run it and then select Uninstalling. When it has finished scanning, you will be able to select Google Update Helper from the list of installed programs and then click on Next to remove it.
HAH!!! Thanks. The program had 'corrupt patch registry keys.' I think it may be more corrupt than that. The MS programme also spotted Adobe Refresh Manger and I gave that the boot as well. These programmes are not visible in Control Panel !!
