Patch My PC Updater - Check for Software Updates

It it truly portable? Some applications claim to be portable, and they're not really.
What I mean is, does it leave file, folders or registry entries behind?

 

Hello Justin, I would like to request to add K-Lite Codec standard version. Right now there is only mega version in the updater. Thanks for the excellent updater.

 

Hi Justin - does it update portable apps also, or just installed apps?

For example, PatchMyPC detected Brave was out of date, which is portable on my system. Will it then update the portable version?

Or should one use it only for installed apps?

 

@JoWazzoo, I see. So this is actually the display name of the application that we pulled from the registry. If you look in add and remove programs, that should be the display name of the application. You can ignore that (remove only) if shouldn't have any impact on anything as far as updates go.

 

@Hadron, Yes it's portable. We do save a small bit of settings info to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Patch My PC

 

@paulderdash, the portable version check it based on the last time the portable app was installed using Patch My PC. We aren't currently doing any custom file scans for portable apps across your machine. You can set the portable application folder you want to use to download portables into then the version tracking is based on the last version Patch My PC downloaded for you.

A request on Potplayer. When updated with Patch My PC, potplayer changes default files association. Even if you deselect all associations in potplayer app, it resets all the association. However when you install updates manually, you can select "None" in the installer and it doesn't reset file association https://i.imgur.com/Up2AW8L.jpg
I believe when Patch My PC updates it, it keeps default checkbox aka "Associate all files supported by Potplayer" https://i.imgur.com/fBaRNXd.jpg
I request you to change it to "None keep current association" instead. I hope I was able to explain properly.

Another request is to add K-Lite Codec standard version. Right now there is only mega version in the updater. I mentioned above but you might have not read as the comment was waiting moderator approval and didn't appear in time.

Great updating tool, only thing that is missing is an option to ONLY show apps that need to be updated in the list. (Preferable hide ALL apps that aren't found on the user's system would already make it a lot more clearer)
Right now, when we, for reasons, don't want all the apps to update that are out of date it's a little seeking around to properly check/uncheck when it all could be much easier.

Also a rightclick option to ignore specific apps for update checking would be great. (Say, I have registered Directory Opus upto version 11.x and the update price ain't pulling me over anymore & I'll stick with the version I have, i'd rather not be nagged that newer versions are available)

Small bugreport : "Create Desktop Shortcut" option gives a Windows ScriptHost error when the app is in a path that contains a space in its name, for example : C:\Program Files (x86)\Patch My PC\

 

I will look into the Potplayer options. It really will depend on if there are any command line options available to unset the association. You can disable silent install for updates that you would like to choose custom options on as a workaround.

 

We were really close to adding the hide non-installed in V4, but we hit some pretty big performance issues along the way. We will continute looking into options for this as it's pretty requested.

We will look into the scripthost error for hte shortcut creation.

  • Fixed an issue where setting a schedule to run at 12AM would set the schedule to 12PM
• Improvements:
  • Application group text will now show the updated color or outdated color based on whether all apps installed within the group are updated or any are outdated
  • If an application group has no application installed, it will be collapsed by default. This can be configured in the option menu.

 

The shortcut will be fixed in the next update.

Please make them write to ini file. I use Shadow Defender and they'll be lost at reboot, besides I always like full portability, no reg traces or dropped files elsewhere.

 

I've noticed that without a network connection it refuses to run, can you change this?
