My linux version doesn't do that. Sure? Anyway the configuration file is extremely small. You could save that super small file on your Desktop and if for some reason you crash, rather than re-configuring you could simply write the small file back in a second. Setup a batch file to make it a simple click and done if you wanted to. Just an idea.
I vaguely recall hearing about Intel having a (in)famous identifier on their chipset or CPU years ago, but I think they finally got rid of it. Aside from that I have heard of a Windows SIN number, and a UUID or GUID (connected to the motherboard?).
Perhaps as undesirable as PureVPN may be here on this forum, after I reported their software was leaking my DNS they finally found the issue and fixed it. They've sent me a version to try and I no longer have to change from my ISP's DNS before connecting to PureVPN. I also received a three month extension to my subscription.
