    hello

    i have two questions:

1- how does microsoft windows know the path to some software in the run window? for example if i write "firefox" it will open mozilla firefox, but if i type "winamp" it won't open. how is this controled?

2- how do you clear or change the software list that appears when you choose "open with...", when you open a file that doesn't any any application associated.

    thanks

    Hey thing,

Hopefully this Microsoft Knowledgebase article will show you how.

This MSKB article---> How to Create a File Association in Windows 98 and Windows Me

    said by Microsoft:
    "SUMMARY
This article explains how to remove an existing file association and then associate the file extension with the file type of your choice in Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and Windows Millennium Edition (Me)."

Oh ok....your wanting to delete the program list that you see when dealing with Open With.

If so....you can NOT delete that list....unless you want to un-install all the programs. Windows simply shows ALL programs that are installed and you choose which program to use as far as open with goes.

Well....there ya go....learn someting new every day.

    Hello Thing!

The "Open-With" menu actually can be changed, items deleted, etc. I didn't know this for the longest time, until I saw it as part of a program I use called RegSupreme Pro - that lets you do all kinds of things:

    Key features
Clean your computer's registry with one of the most advanced registry cleaner available today
Find and remove hidden traces of any installed software

Manage which programs automatically start with Windows

Uninstall or remove software from the Windows' Add/Remove software list

Remove the operating system's interface features you don't need

    Remove unneeded file types

    Remove unneeded shell extensions

Remove items from the IE's context (right click) menu

Modify the Windows' Open With menu

Automatically tries to fix the found problems
Multi-lingual user interface, you can use the program in all the major languages but also to translate it to your own language very easily
Automatic backup feature backups everything the program removes or modifies
    Comes with a full documentation

    Hope this helps!

They'll let you use the software for a bit....if you do not want to buy.

If your comfortable with editing the registry....you could do it yourself.
