Most likely I could do with an AV, I just happen to have one just in case. At home I use Eset, it has blocked a few websites but aside from that it hasn´t found anything in years. For the good paid suites, they should help and not cause system issues or slow down the computer. Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Eset have their pros and cons but normally they don´t cause any of the problems that guy mentioned. As long as you don´t start changing vendors. Of course, I using imaging software and that´s always a huge plus. I wouldn´t go without it. Just use the AV as an extra, don´t rely on it. But I do remember McAfee and the Spyware Doctor prior to 2010, and those were a pain ... They are indeed not all equal. For what my opinion is worth.
Yes that was the one thing he said I could not agree with, but then maybe he likes HP's firmware key logger in his keyboard drivers lol. Aside from that the worst computer I ever owned was HP, the best have been Dell's.

Microsoft Windows is a malware by itself. It takes all your personal info and nobody knows what they do with it. Google does the same. And it's all LEGAL. It's in the EULA you never read. Yes, there is that I only use Windows in VMs. I never install from ISOs linkable to my meatspace persona. And for the most part, I only use Windows when I need to use Excel.
On paper maybe, in practice, malware creators already know the capabilities of AV and test their malware against them to ensure they are not detected. The only thing AV is good for is older, known threats that will already, by that point, be in good ole Windows Defender's, definition files.
Well I still aint watching it. Kinda waiting for OP to give a reasonable intro to the thread. No AV bloat here for at least a decade. No plans on changing that.
I watched both videos, my comments are on the first one, ignoring the second. In my opinion, he does have a point when he says antiviruses in general create problems. I think they do. When you install uninstall antiviruses they make a lot of changes in your computer that eventually create problems when you update the system. Its happening with W10 right now. People who use antiviruses, in general, they install one, uninstall it a few months later, and install another and so on. By the time the computer is 2 years old, they installed uninstalled so many programs in the computer that in my opinion, problems are to be expected. I stopped using antiviruses in 2010, I dont even run on demand scans. The result is 0 problems of any kind. This is the result of learning how to protect myself without using scanners and avoiding installing programs in the computer just for the sake of testing. I bought my W10 on July 8th last year. By the 10th, I had installed in this computer what I am going to use in it. Ever since, I haven't added any new programs in this computer. Completely static. So, adding to what the guy in the porch said, not installing programs for testing just because they are free or because they sound like a nice program is something to avoid, IMO, if you want to have a free from problems computer experience. I also agree about Windows defender. If I was to use an AV, thats what I would be using. I am 100% on that. Why? Because antiviruses, IMO, are all about the same. The ones that are better are just a bit better than the rest. The difference regarding security is so little it doesn't make a difference which one you choose to use. The other reason why I would choose WD is because you avoid littering the computer with debri leftover by all the installing uninstalling that goes on when you go third party AV.
