    Its pretty light on resources, detection is very good, configuration level and heuristics too, but it has a terrible update system. It's also not using incrimental updates (they are around 1,5MB each).
    If you have DSL/Cable, then this won't be the problem :)

    You should consider Panda Platinum 7.0, which was available free for one year. I am not sure if they still have that offer.

    I think it's one of the top scanners nowadays, very light, fast, mailscanning, great auto updates, etc. I just disabled the firewall and that's it.
    Finds a lot of malware as well.

    Just register and you'll get a user/pass by mail for one year.

    I just downloaded this program today (the personal/free one) and I like it, i find it much better than mcafee virus scan, as for the updates if you have a server you can have it download the updates regularly and just copy them to your directory (like I do) but if you have a modem it can be a real pain (especially in the pocket) but I have downloaded a few viruses and other nasties off the net and it has picked up every single one of them, including sasser, mydoom and netsky,
