    I just ran the 64-bit version. Appears to be a portable app (does not install over stable version). Is that intentional?

    The HMP beta doesn't install, so it doesn't replace the installed stable version.
    When plat1098 said beta 290 was installed, that was why mood was wondering how plat1098 was able to install the beta.

    I see, thanks for clarifying Stupendous Man. However, I just tried uninstalling the stable version, and after rerunning the beta executable and re-enabling scheduled scans, it appears to be installed (appears on the Windows Start menu and is executed from within HMP.A).

    Oh, and shell integration still works, thank goodness!

    Thanks, HempOil.
    I think I understand, now.
    When a stable HMP is installed, the HMP beta doesn't install but only runs, so it doesn't replace the installed stable version.
    But when no HMP was installed, it seems the HMP beta does install.
    I think this matches plat1098's experience.
    And same as in plat1098's experience, I suppose your installed beta 290 will revert back to the latest stable version.

    Aha, there. I should not have stated earlier the beta was a clean installation, apparently it was not. Looks like I'll have to do one to get out of this hybrid "installation" mode. :)

    @RonnyT, or @erikloman, or @markloman,

    Thanks, very much.
    But sadly, build 292 does not resolve the long standing issue of missing HMP shell integration.
    In HMP settings, the option "Show 'Scan with HitmanPro' for files and folders in Windows Explorer" is correctly enabled, the box ticked.
    And with a clean HMP installation shell integration in Windows Explorer is there, and works.
    But with in place update of the previously installed version, HMP shell integration in Windows Explorer is missing since 2017.

    The 2017 HMP shell integration issue is only fixed with a clean HMP installation.
    With an in place update of the previously installed version, the HMP shell integration issue is still not fixed.

    This has been mentioned many time before.
    I mentioned it again, December 15, 2017 and December 20, 2017.

    It seems this long standing issue was overlooked, once again.
    Or SurfRight/Sophos has given up on fixing shell integration with in place update of the previously installed version.
    Any way, I think it's a real pity.

    Hi Stupendous Man!

    Solution to the problem Shell integration (HitmanPro is not shown in Windows Explorer, although its setting has been enabled):

    > Deselect the Shell integration setting in HitmanPro;
    > Restart the system;
    > Delete the hmpshext.dll file from the root directory of HitmanPro (Local Disk C: / Programs or Programs (x86));
    > Restart the system and re-enable the Shell Integration setting.

    Thanks, Valdez.
    Yes, I know such solution is available.
    I knew it was somewhere in this thread, thanks very much for setting out that information.

    However -
    many HMP users are not on Wilders, and don't see that solution for the shell integration issue.
    Therefore, I still think Sophos should fix it in HMP, so that next update fixes the issue with an in place update of the previously installed version.
    If Sophos doesn't fix it in HMP, I think Sophos doesn't care enough for its non-techie (non-Wilders) users.

    I wonder why the Desktop shortcut and Task Bar icon only changed on one of my machines while my two other machines still have the old SurfRight icons?

    Hi Krusty,

    I suspect Windows is caching icon's here hence showing the old one's.
    If you open the shortcut property and select the change icon does it show the correct one?

    FWIW ~ after update, I created new shortcut to get Sophos theme and then did clean install for fun.

    Strangely, this screen also shows after automatic update, not just when launching the installer/executable.

    Can you double check add/remove sofware (appwiz.cpl) to see if it registered 2 HMP's 3.7 and 3.8 there?

    Hi Ronny,

    Yes, changing the icon now shows the correct one. :thumb:
