Using Brave via ReHIPS, no issues so far. I like that Bitwarden is built-in.

Dumb Brave question. I installed it, and once closed I couldn't find where it installed or any place to start it up. I know I am going to feel silly when you tell me.

You should tried the portable first. It's working just fine on my end, also with Sandboxie. I see no performance or browsing speed loss at all. On the contrary, I see portable quite fast, wow!

Good question. That's more than double the size of Chromium, of which the desktop version is based on. Also, is there no way to install it in %ProgramFiles%?

It is called software bloat there is a nice wikipedia article on that,
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat
Although I think it does fail to mention one aspect of that which is how convenient it is for the sales of new PC's and therefore the tech industry as a whole, when the described software bloat causes currently owned PC's to get progressively slower and less useful.

The installer of Brave Browser is bigger not because of bloat, but because of a bad compression ratio.
If they would have used a better compression, the installer could have a similar size as the portable version (~70MB)

If i look into the installer and extract the files (i could have also installed it :ninja:), the biggest file is app.asar (242 MB)
    Code:
    ...\Downloads\BraveSetup-x64\brave-0.19.123-full\lib\net45\resources\app.asar 242.930.849 bytes 2017-12-27
(file extension asar = Simple extensive tar-like archive format with indexing)
All needed resources are stored in this file, and i could find a lot of muon or electron-related things.
But this is expected, Brave Browser is using the Electron framework ("and Muon is a fork of the Electron framework which is currently used in the Brave web browser")

I didn't know what file to download, but I figured it out. Apparently it's the "brave-portable-ia32-0.19.122-18-setup.exe" file which is 70 MB big, but when you run it, it says it needs 450MB of diskspace. What the hell is up with this?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the interest in this browser. I have it installed but I can't stand to use it. I just launched it, after not using it for a couple weeks, and it took 45 seconds to finally display my starting page! In addition to that, opening a second tab takes about 10 seconds for that tab to fully display the page. Lastly, it's lack of extension support makes it a no-deal for me.

I know how you feel, last year it was very bare bones, so that's why I wanted to see if it has been improved. The only interesting feature is Brave Payments, but I'm skeptical.

I like 7zipped files to just decompress them at my own liking. So in this link https://github.com/portapps/brave-portable/releases, I downloaded brave-portable-x64-0.19.122-18.7z

And yes it is huge when unzipped: around 529 MB

Hopefully the modifications the developers have made to the Chromium code Brave is based on haven't affected the browser kernel or rendering engine components to the point where the security they provide have been compromised.

    @Grumlo ,

Did you upload it to Virustotal or something like that ? Possibly the file is too large ? I think that detection is worth checking out.
