As you know, discussion of customized WinPE builds has been declared "off topic" in the Terabyte thread here and it's not clear (to me) whether the same would apply to this Macrium thread. So I'll say only that the same general answers to your questions and the WinPE "customization" procedures involved apply equally in either case.

Yes, in either case, Macrium or Terabyte, provisions certainly are made for creating WinPE-based rescue media. In fact, Terabyte includes its own XPPE scripting provision for use with BartPE. Others used to do that as well, but BartPE is no longer available from the originator and the need for some more up-to-date PE project solution of that type does seem apparent.

All of that aside, however, judgement calls about what fits within any forum topic are the unenviable responsibility of forum moderators and I can only assume that the decision stated in the Terabyte thread applies and is to be respected here as well. Unless and until told otherwise, I have nothing further to add on the subject.

Creating a boot menu in free v7 for new laptop, I see the optional 'Bitlocker'and Áutomatically unlock encrypted drives' are ticked.

I don't use Bitlocker ... are these default settings OK?

Untick them if you don't need them... life needs to be uncomplicated

    Thanks Kent.
Again? I just burned disks yesterday from the last patch. I wish I'd never installed v7. I created a set of v6 disks for my machines and they still work great and I hardly ever had to create new ones.

    Hello @Krusty,

You are most welcome ;) ...

I use a flash drive for the rescue media mainly because it is more convenient for me to do so. Additionally, it relieves me of having too many Macrium "coasters" laying around from old versions of the rescue media. I do agree that all of a sudden there seems to be a lot of recommended rescue media creations along with the updates. I think the last three or four updates came along with the recommendation of creating new rescue media. There has only been like one (maybe none?) before this since version 7 was released. Since I do use a flash drive for my rescue media, I always go ahead and create a new one each time an update comes out. For me, it only takes a couple of minutes so no big deal...

I also prefer to use flash drive for rescue media. As Kent mentioned, it only takes few minutes to create it and another minute or two to test it. So far I didn't encounter any problem creating and using it that way.

I may start to do this too. I've been in the habit of burning disks for each machine and it's easy to write the name of the machine on each disk, but I guess there are ways around that.

    Thanks.

    As above. :)

Will have to buy some flash drives for my 3 laptops for this purpose (not just Macrium).

Unless there is an easy way of putting several on one USB, never researched this. But I guess that's another topic.

    Still using re-recordable DVDs :D.

If you're using Macrium on all three, can't you create one for all of them?

I do but all my systems are similiar. If they were radically different than I'd probably make separate ones.

    @TheRollbackFrog ,

Since I'm considering buying a new desktop computer with a SSD rather than a traditional harddrive, I have this question: can you create an image of a system that has an SSD in the same way as 'regular' harddrives ? And can you put that image on an external harddrive ? I'm really not familiar with these issues.

This is just for private, at home use. I´ll likely continue to use Windows 7 for the time being. Possibly I´ll switch to Linux at some point in the future.

I realize that you asked the "Frog", but the answers are yes and yes. The reason I know this is because I use MR and I have an SSD for my system drive and this is exactly what I do. For this purpose, an SSD functions essentially just like a traditional HD; except that it's much faster.

@Alexhousek is correct... there should be no SSD-related issues.

Did anyone encounter problem with Next time run shown in list of scheduled backups?
I tried to change full backup from last Saturday to first Saturday of month. My goal was to set it on February 3rd 2018. When I changed that setting and set a start date at the end of January 2018 next run time was set to January 6th 2018. Here is a screenshot:

    upload_2017-12-30_9-41-13.png

So next run time date is set before starting point of a schedule. IDK if full backup would be really created next week.
Next run time will be set for February 3rd only if I set starting date in February 2018. I've made similar changes in past and till now never encountered this problem.

@Minimalist; My scheduled backups are set to run a new full the first Sunday of each month and after the update the list in the Scheduled Backups tab of the Reflect GUI shows the next Full should run on 07 Jan 2018, as expected.

@Krusty; As long as you can trust that you will always have access to at least one computer able to burn an ISO image to a disk you could very easily simply create ISO images of the rescue media and perhaps back them up to a secondary location as opposed to creating physical CD/DVD media each time...

You're probably right but I like to have recovery media immediately available if and when I need it. I think using flash drives would be a better solution than disks in this case so will go that route.

    Thanks.

So, I thought that maybe it was finally safe after almost a year to upgrade my Server edition to v7; and I thought that an uninstall of v6 and a fresh install of v7 would be the cleanest way of doing it. Nope.

The uninstall seems to have worked. Then I choose the 30 trial as seemingly the only way of getting v7 expecting to later be able to apply the v7 license I already have. I clicked the download button, filled out the required form, received an e-mail with a link to verify my e-mail address, clicked the link, got a page where I was prompted to "Select Installation Package" and so on.

Nothing on the form would accept any input. Please God help me to not be sarcastic.

Can anybody suggest a way for me to download Server v7?
