My mom is starting to experience memory issues, so she can't remember the Win7 admin password. We live about 400 miles apart so I can't readily visit her to boot a Windows install/recovery disk. Is it possible for me to use TeamViewer to remotely access her Win7 Home Premium (x64) system and recover/reset the admin password? If that can be done some instructions would be greatly appreciated.

After reading the descriptions, it doesn't seem as if either one of those will do the job.

Pstools must be run while logged on with an account that has administrative rights on the target computer. The user's logon (admin) password is the problem! The NirSoft utility states it can only recover the logon password if the remote computer is on my LAN. It isn't on my LAN.

So she's logged in as User not Admin?

Okay, I just called her to get some more details. She is able to login under her user account which doesn't require a password. But when she attempts to login to my dad's account on the PC (to retrieve some important info) it asks for his password. My dad used to be the system admin but he is now deceased.

The Freeware programs I've found can't be used through TeamViewer. They are bootable programs that wipe out the Admin PW.

Years ago I wiped an Admin PW. Can't remember the program or the Windows version.

Maybe you could burn a few of these. Post them to your Ma. Then use on your computer so you can talk her through.

zapjb, thanks for trying to help. At this stage of her life I'm not sure mom can handle a Boot DVD, etc., etc...

Hopefully, someone else will pop-in here with a TeamViewer solution.

@Wendi If there was a public known way to get admin privaleges on a remote computer using team viewer it would be considered a vulnerability/exploit and the team viewer developers most probably would have fixed it already.
Your best bet would be download orphcrack, make the CD, send it to her and tell her to put it in the DVD drive then reboot the PC.
It should then get the lost admin password.

There is no TeamViewer solution. It is not hard to boot from a flash drive or DVD, if given basic directions.

That certainly makes sense. I will make an ophcrack CD and determine what's involved in running it. Then I'll mail the CD to mom and see if she can follow my instructions. Thanks to all who replied ...and happy holidays!

Look up her computer to know how to either change the Boot order or a 1 time change of Boot order.

Then make two copies & run at the same time as your Ma & you'll be seeing what she's seeing. Should be easier this way.
