Why it isn’t a good idea to run multiple full antivirus products at the same time

I can understand, though, if someone is victimized by some online crime and goes to the opposite extreme. Guess one has to learn the hard way to ditch a product when the time comes. Also, to use Emsi w/beta feed cautiously, right?

I wonder how MB would respond as don't they say their product is compatible with other security solutions?

That is an exception, as it has been designed to work with antivirus software.

WSA is an exception as well as it's designed to work with other AV's and AM's if a person wants to. If the other AV sees it first then WSA will let that AV remove it but if not detected then WSA will step in. It's been that way since the Prevx days and continues.

This is all hypothetical, in reality people run 2-3 AVs just fine, it is not XP era anymore. You can test your multi AV setup with test files and if you get no BSOD or etc, it should be OK
In the past, people had antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-keylogger and even more and there were not any serious issues. Security experts were actually recommending at least 3 products.

we don't talk about complementary solutions but full-fledge real-time scanners doing exactly the same thing. Try mixing BD + KIS + EAM + Avast, im sure you will love blue colors :p

They were all detecting the same things, that is the reason, why they have merged to AV only (antimalware).
Well not those, but once you find a good combo, you can mix as many AV as you want. It can be slightly helped by changing CPU priority to their processes. The point is, that it is possible.

In fact, it is just pointless to add several AVs because MS usually gives AV's drivers a priority ID called Altitude so if one has a better Altitude, it will react first, so the second AV even if more efficient will just wait its turn (unless the first one can't detect the malware). AVs like Webroot (very few now) , is purposely coded to give priority to the other AV.

Imo Altitude is a pro argument when it comes to the topic of using several AVs which use minifilter drivers. It minimizes the risk of deadlocks etc.
