I don't care for the recent Office 365 update the brought "focused inbox" to Outlook 2016. There seems to be no way to turn it off.

Updates always work fine for me. I've been using StartIsBack++ for a month or so, to replace the Start Menu. I presume I would still be having issues with the native Windows 10 Start Menu if I wasn't using a replacement one, as sometimes the Action Center won't open.

There's been no mention of a fix, or even acknowledgement that the bug even exists, so I doubt anything has changed.

So much for all our telemetry. :thumbd:

Don't worry. I'm sure they've found it useful for other purposes :)

Yes, I'm sure you're right about that. :shifty:

Yes, I read that you did turn to that for that issue. The thing is, lots of people are reporting a smoothly running update/general performance so it's something inherently with these machines and I want to know what it is. It's sort of hovering around the Ethernet/network area, maybe. I don't know. .:'(

Here, it worked for the weird Edge issue/service host--state repository. When nothing else was forthcoming, I went about shutting it off here and there. .I ain't leaving that on, you kidding?

At work without office 365 at the moment.... but if I remembered correctly there is a button to turn it off in the middle of the view tab.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that's the claim made by all of the google searches I found. That button does not exist by default, and if you customize the ribbon and add it to the tab for it there is no button, just a blank box. The lack of quality control is maddening.

Maybe it's just a problem with the English version. I have found evidence of many others complaining of the same problem, so it's not just me. It is the same for me on 2 PCs. I hope they fix it, or that I can find a workaround.

    Edit-
I just opened Outlook on my laptop and the button was there. I spent 2 hours last night trying to get this to work. I don't know what changed. I'm not making this stuff up. I hope it stays off and that it works on my desktop when I get home.

    Edit 2-
Still no sign of the setting on my desktop machine.

Are they on the same build? Maybe check for updates on the ones that don't have the button?

Same build, no updates available for either. The laptop focused inbox decided to turn itself back on today. Fortunately the button was still there to turn it off again. I hope they fix this in the next update.

I got this update: kb4058043 like just now. Microsoft Store Reliability Update. Installed fast as lightning and successfully. Hope this magically cures what ails some, like my machines. Winver stays the same: 16299.125. It was dismaying to see that certain extensions like uBlock Origin didn't update and were stuck like that, without any notifications, unless you opened Edge and happened to see the uBO greyed out.

I've been hoping for a fix for the Start button / menu ever since 1709 was released. I guess we can live in hope.

Interestingly the button magically appeared on the desktop machine today. No updates have been downloaded to my knowledge. I hope it stays that way.

I got that update too. Perhaps is designed to fix Store Events Log error 2484 for Apps, this event has been appearing recently in the Events Log of my laptop. Lately I been getting about 1 of them at start up, every 5 days or so.

Everything this guy Woody writes about Microsoft is always bad. I think he feels bashing MS generates traffic, to get people reading what he writes. Next month, his usual writeup about MS updates will be similar to this one, basically the same words, only change the date and the KB number.

    Hi Bo

First people don't care about updates that work, so why report on those. Unfortunately I agree with his bashing for one reason. I understand why getting updates perfect is tough. But when they force the updates on you with very little choice they raise the bar on their performance standard, and that they haven't lived up to.
