I can confirm that. The firewall and data shield are no big protection layers...Panda has problems with 0-day and ransomware...but i like the little panda
Panda AV Free (aka Dome) version 18.04 installs and runs well on Windows XP SP3 and with a pre-SSE2 processor. Apparently it can be installed over a previous version 18 but I prefer to uninstall in Safe Mode and then do a clean install. There aren't many settings to reinstate.
It also runs on machines running Vista with pre-SSE2 processors. I'm running it on Win 7 after uninstalling the old version and running the Panda generic uninstaller before finally installing Panda Dome.
No autoupgrade available so I uninstalled/reinstalled Panda as many times before. I don't understand why they create a new name, new GUI or new icon with every new version, it would be more important to fix known bugs.
They have a new focus on endpoint with their panda 360 adaptive defense. Home user are probably not important
An update to the traditional paid products would be nice. However, I may end up installing Panda free again and keep using Comodo for a firewall, instead of installing Panda Internet Security.
It's at version 17. Panda Protection which is only available as a monthly subscription is at version 18.
Panda Free is also in version 18.x ; a full-installer can be downloaded from https://www.neowin.net/news/panda-free-antivirus-1830
Panda Dome Free is at 18.04 now while Panda Protection is at 18.03 but Panda Internet Security is just at version 17. Sometimes I think the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing ... Years ago I bought several Panda licences but I will never ever do it again.
A notable feature of version 18.04 compared with previous versions is that the counter of scanned files does not seem to be creeping remorselessly higher and higher. I guess that the total is now the number of files scanned between system startup and shutdown. I used to wonder what the overflow point of the counter was and what happened if it was exceeded..
Yes, I'm aware of that. I was talking about the paid versions of Panda, which seem to have been abandoned.
The paid version is a bit better, but only a bit...I still wouldn't consider it unless it was really, really cheap.
They're keeping the subscription people on the latest version. The pay-once folks have the outdated version. Kind of pathetic.
Panda Free Antivirus 18.0.4 https://www.neowin.net/news/panda-free-antivirus-1804 http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/panda_cloud_antivirus.html
This is the only PC I'm not using 18.04 on.... Have had nothing but issues trying to install 18.04 on. In short, it won't install on it. Constantly showing an error and asking for a reboot. You will see my adventures on the Panda Forum. (also had MANY PM's with the mod on it) Other than that, It's a keeper!
