Yes, I had noticed it too.

And I noticed two other remarkable things about Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 KB4054521 :
    1.
I expected it to be here:
    Code:
     http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/12/ etc
    But it was here:
    Code:
     http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/secu/2017/11/ etc
    2.
There was no reboot required. Well, I rebooted myself anyways. But it was not required on my Win7 Pro 64-bit.
BTW the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer KB4052978 did require a reboot.

I'm not saying that there is something wrong with Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 KB4054521.
I'm only saying that it was remarkable.

    11 in place of 12.

That's a common in M$ download links. I assume they upload the msu files on November but available until December Patch Tuesday.
Same thing applies in other months of the year.

    Yes, I assume it too.
Thanks for pointing to that it happened in other months too. I didn't look at those (already enough problems with "seeing").
    Thanks, take care.

I had no idea that the rollups were so huge. It is looking more and more like W10. I am glad I chose to install Security only updates.

I thought Microsoft was only supposed to send the delta update each month (monthly rollups). This is what they stated when they announced the policy change in October 2016.

Well, i have Seven Home premium 64-BIT, and I only install security updates. No issue. Would I have any benefit installing the rollups ?

I don't think so. Maybe only if you encounter a specific problem that is addressed with update included in rollup.

So I believe. The fact is, even if there is an update useful fr me, I had to install the whole backup !

Clarification re: kernel-memory-leaking-intel-processor-design-flaw; Windows Updates ...

Win 7 and 8.1 updates will be available on Patch Tuesday,

Win 7 and 8.1 security-only updates are incorrectly documented as being available on Windows Update.

So if I understand correctly today they issued sec only patch for this intel bug for win7 but we can get it only by download manualy, not thrue WU?
where? anyone tested this on win7 64bit? performance loss (for games)?

I really hope they wont package this only with other patches as usual so I have to install all the lemetry BS together with this.

    thanks

    Thank you Mister X !!
The Update Catalog has been causing me for so long errors; so I depend on others to post them.

    PS:
It seems there is also an update for IE.
If you have the time, could you please post them too? Thanks much in advance!!!

More info is coming in on the latest updates from Microsoft for W7 and W8 for January 2018. To date, it looks as though the patch for W7 and W8 only addresses the Meltdown bug - this is specific to Intel and Arm based systems. AMD based systems are not impacted by Meltdown.

The second more severe security vulnerability, Spectre is not patched in the current bundle. Spectre affects all CPUs, Intel, ARM and AMD (to a lesser extent). More than Microsoft updates will be required to close the vulnerabilities. There is more to come.

For W7 and W8, these patches are not out of band. ( W10 is).

As security only updates are not cumulative, the patch can be hidden (if desired), but with the penalty of missing out on the other fixes in the bundle. The perceived performance impact is considered minor for this update for the majority of consumer systems. The reason for this is that workload is seldom intensive on these systems. Security experts recommend that you install either the security only update or the monthly rollup for W7 and W8 asap - the embargo on the details has been broken so the bad guys will be all over it.

I'll Install this on my new i7 7600k win7 64 machine and run some performance test before/after.
do you have some specific tests in mind?
Unfortunately I can't run any graphic card involved tests cos I don't have one yet except old GTX460.
    thank you.

Do you have a source for this? Afaik they're offered on Windows 7 and 8.1 but the kernel changes might break AV's so your AV needs to set a registry key first to indicate that it is compatible before the update is shown.

    @BoerenkoolMetWorst
I've seen that before but didn't understand it really.
Now I checked my eset under help/about and under Antivirus and antispyware scanner module it says 1533.3 (20180104).
So that means I'm ready for update right?

    @Mister X, thank you

That is supposed to be the fix from ESET. I got that module earlier today for my Eset.
