Next within 30 years. People [90%+] will voluntarily get an implant of some sort. Honestly they won't mind or think anythings wrong with it.

The biggest problem isn't generational change, but a process to prepare people to the next change. When you know they'll even use honesty as a means to an end you know the end is near.

I'm sure FB realise the consequences of the bad publicity surrounding their privacy violations and expect people to look for alternatives hence why they are buying them up.
Business opertunity: Start new social network offering privacy and anonymity and wait for the Facebook to try and buy you out.
No zuckerburg, you misheard me I said twenty five BILLION with a "b" hahaha oh yeah and you know that island you own...

It's going to get worse & worse as far as privacy & invasiveness.

People will judge the degree of how bad things are by what they have experienced. So yes it is a generational thing. For a 60yo privacy has gotten horribly worse but for an 18yo nothing is wrong at all.

There is, or was, a possible competitor to FB several years ago. I checked it but never signed up. It was quite a bit looser and less apt to ban a person for 'offending' someone than Facebook is these days. I don't know if it's still around or not. I checked because they paid you a penny for 'likes' awarded by other members for posts you made. I didn't join, but wished I'd kept the link. Facebook is getting to be an ad factory. Fully a third of posts on my timeline these days are advertisements. Most of the rest is fake news.

If it weren't for the fact that I've gotten in touch with relatives I hadn't seen or heard from in years, old school friends I lost touch with, and former co-workers, I'd be gone.

Like some of you, I use Facebook to keep up with friends and relatives. But, I also use an extension that hides ads, etc. It hides much more than this. You can pick what you want it to hide. I've been using this extension for more than a year and I LOVE IT!!! It doesn't slow my browser down or give me any other problems and I don't have to put up with all the junk if I don't want to. This extension can be found at: http://www.fbpurity.com

Did you know that Facebook was designed to be additive and they planed for that to be used. No thanks. No benefit is worth the price

Nope. The reason, why other services failed is simple, there were too many of them. FB is just one, it has no viable alternative. 99% of your friends/family will not switch to anything else.

It applies only to a few geeks, who read tech articles, the rest do not know or do not care. Google says, that Chrome has 1 billion users and just 1 million (0,1%) use privacy extensions.

Exactly most people fail to see, that it improves social life, in order to meet people and to be able to know "stuff", FB is a necessity. It is just a tool, what people do with it, is up to them.

"Ex-Facebook Prez Sean Parker Says They Knew They Were Exploiting Vulnerabilities, ‘Did It Anyway’

Sean Parker, the co-founder of Napster and former president of Facebook, painted a dark picture of the social media platform he was once president of...

The tech entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist then pointed the finger at the inventors of platforms like Facebook for exploiting their users.

Parker claimed that with the development of Facebook and other platforms, 'the thought process was all about how to consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible.'

'And that means that we needed to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever.'

'It’s a social validation feedback loop,' he continued. 'You’re exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology...' "

You know it's funny. Two of my people suggested building a facebook page for my business so I did. It did attract a lot of attention and I could see how it spread though the clients friends. I was a bit surprised at the hugh amount of information some clients who were single women would share. Shocking.

Then I read the stuff Hawki was quoting and I realized it wasn't a tool that represented what I wanted to stand for. Built a new webpage and facebook page coming d own.

Peter2150, I did the same years ago, and while it attracted traffic & chatter, less than 1% of new clients came from that platform. Same for Google+. It wasn't worth the upkeep and effort to quantify such small sales, so I dumped them both.

Well the funny part about that is that I've never paid for any ads and all my new clients have been from word of mouth.
