Quantum leap. Or is it? To wit, here's a review and comparison of several Firefox-based browsers, including Firefox, Waterfox and Pale Moon, covering look & feel, extensions, performance, long-term suitability and other aspects of desktop usage. Take a look.

There is: 'Luke, I am your father' SeaMonkey that also uses Gecko of course.

I only run it on Windows though as it has disappeared from the Ubuntu repo.

    Nice review :thumb:

One thing you didn't mention was whether or not hardware acceleration and multi-process were enabled (and if so what the content process limit was set to).

Granted the default icons in palemoon are not up too much but they can be replaced with different icons at palemoons addons >themes.Personally I like the noia moon (aka noia fox) set .

Mozilla say that Firefox Quantum is faster, but when I went to Firefox 57, I created a new profile and hoped to notice page loading improvements, but I haven't noticed any improvement. And it doesn't come even close to Vivaldi.

FF57 is much quicker on my machine than a clean install of Cyberfox, which wasn't mentioned by the way. ;)

FWIW I think Fx 57 is fast but l still think Maxthon and Vivaldi are faster.

I just installed the beta of Maxthon 5 and it is noticably faster than FF 57.

Maxthon has always been the fastest browser I've used on Windows for years. For some reason, the only browser that seemed almost as fast was SRWare Iron.

This will be my last off topic post, as this is a thread about Firefox. I just installed the latest version of Iron, and it is incredibly fast when I page up and down through web pages. Quite a bit faster than even Maxthon is.

I quite like Firefox 57, it's fast on Linux and compares well with Chrome. As for SRWare Iron, I've only used it on Windows. But it doesn't surprise me that it's even faster than Maxthon for you. On Windows Firefox 57 seems definitely faster than Chrome.

After a long time, i am back to Firefox now from Chrome. With uBlock Origin.

At this point, i will be using both, and will play with Firefox with different settings (like playing with different settings from ghacks user.js)

Only a couple of years ago many were predicting Firefox's demise in only a few months. It's still here though.
