I tried researching before i posted & didn't find much. Found the link you provided & this link...https://support.kaspersky.com/us/viruses/solutions/1846 Still confused what it is.
Appears Shadowbot is related to game playing: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1692716/shadow-bot-player-solo-play . It can also be malware. Also appears it has to be manually installed but the install could have "piggybacked" on a game installation. I personally would be very leery of anything that created a separate network connection on my PC.
I'm not interested in games so i didn't install it. So i take it that it's safe to remove & if so what method to remove?
Checked add/remove & not there. But, "shareware on sale notifier" is there & i don't know what this is or if there is a connection. EDIT: I noticed in network settings an option to remove the shadowbot network, safe to remove?
I would disable it first as shown in the below screen shot. If there are no later adverse effects from doing so, you can then remove it:
This is most likely the "culprit" since you don't know what it is or remember installing it. No way of knowing if this will indeed remove Shadowbot. Also removing the Shadowbot connection via Network Connections might not permanently remove it. Whatever software that created it initially might just recreate the connection.
Just tried it & it showed there is no network connection, i had to try & figure out how to get it connected again, maybe i misunderstood
If this helps here's 3 captures when right click>properties of shadowbot. Spoiler: CAP 1 Spoiler: CAP 2 Spoiler: CAP 3
