Did you just use the command prompt or EasyBCD method in that link? I have EasyBCD installed so can try either (after an image) ...
To paulderdash I only used the command prompt. But the Metro Boot Menu (standard) did not like for me, it appears with a delay and somehow illogical, it does not have F8. So I returned to the classic black-white (legacy).
As a relative junior member here, would I be overstepping the bounds of propriety and good will by requesting that this Macrium Reflect thread be reserved for only those issues that actually involve Macrium Reflect directly? It sure would make it easier for me (and perhaps others) to spot help requests falling within my admittedly limited range of subject matter knowledge and potential for providing useful assistance. Or would it be preferable to open a new more specific "Macrium Reflect Help" thread?
I think it's all the switching back and forth of the BOOT menu stuff that probably should be elsewhere. There are a lot of issues concerning the BOOT menu and the more recent OSes (incl. RESTART vs COLD START)... it probably should be elsewhere. It's not an issue of Reflect's Recovery BOOT item yes or no, it's the BOOT menu style stuff that has nothing to do with Reflect directly.
I suppose. It's arguable. In the beginning, there was a reference to a Macrium illustration that did show that Macrium Recovery option. As a matter of fact, however, there is no relationship at all between, on the one hand, the inclusion (or non-inclusion, for that matter) of the Macrium Recovery option or any other particular item in a system's boot menu and, on the other hand, setting the boot menu's "style" using either "BCDedit /set bootmenupolicy legacy", or EasyBCD, or mapping F8 to Window Safe Mode, and all that other stuff that followed ... including some of my own incidentally. It just seems to me that the relationship to Macrium Reflect of some items that get posted here is tenuous at best and that many of them would be much better handled as separate issues in their own threads. But it's a judgement call and I'll not pursue it any further myself.
An "understandable misunderstanding" and please don't take my comment as an aimed barb. It wasn't intended to be. I was just getting a little concerned that we (any of us) could potentially head off into all kinds of vague linkages to some of Reflect's incidental features, especially newer ones like MIG anti-ransomware protection. But 'nuf said on the subject.
RE: viBoot I tried viBoot on Windows 10 1709 with latest version of Macrium Free (7.1.2646). The vm didn“t boot, but either entered a "repairing" sequence or produced a (virtual) BSOD. It worked well on 1703.The image was a bootable system image. Has anybody had a similar problem?
Hello, When I "Check for updates..." from the Macrium GUI, I get "No updates found". Since this update fixes a bug related to "German language customers", I assume Macrium is only pushing this update to the German language customers or is only offering via a manual update. Alternatively, Macrium may push it out later. Since I am not using the German language and my MIG settings dialog is working without issue, I am not concerned about needing to install this update.
Reflect WinPE- several questions, that had not yet been answered, although I had studied all 400 pages of the Manual. a) Can not you create a Differential image, only Full? b) When composing a comments, the keyboard layout can be selected only once, and if I compose a comment in Chinese, and the names of the programs I write in English, what should I do? c) List of keyboard layouts is difficult and inconvenient to navigate, it contains 203 titles. But I need 2 or 3, can I remove unnecessary? Editing WinPE.wim? d) Restore only the MBR from the image without restoring the entire system is not possible? Option "Fix Windows Boots Problems", is not it? Thank!
a) - You certainly can create a differential backup in the WinPE rescue environment. Under the Restore tab, just select the full backup you want to use as the base for the differential, click Other Options and select Create Differential from the dropdown menu. -- http://virtech.org/temp/winpe-diff.png b) and c) - Keyboard layout selection in the WinPE rescue environment is an option provided by Reflect during the start-up process. It's available only once because Reflect is the WinPE shell and shutting it down therefore shuts down the rescue environment entirely. You'd have to address any complaints about it to Macrium directly -- but it would need to run as a "standalone" (not shell) under a customized WinPE build and it's doubful if even that would work to be able to restart and reselect a different keyboard for the Reflect application within the same WinPE session. d) - Yes, the "Fix Windows Boot Problems" utility includes an option for repairing the MBR. -- http://virtech.org/temp/fixboot.png
Thank you very much! I guess I forgot to put on my glasses and missed this option Repairing, but not restoring from a backup? Ad Is the server version superior to the reliability and quality of the WorkStation or Free version?
Regardless of whether a backup image has been restored prior to running "Fix Windows Boot Problems", the latter utility tries to repair ("fix") things so that the machine boots as it should. Presumably, that is what the user would want it to do and that includes the Master Boot Record if that option is chosen. The server edition of Macrium Reflect can be installed and run under server editions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. A more complete comparison of all Reflect editions is available on this Macrium web page.
UPDATE: Having now tested Reflect v7.1.2695 as a "standalone" (not shell) application running in a WinPE environment built using ChrisR's Win10PESE project (W10 v1709 base) I can confirm that Reflect does offer a keyboard layout selection each time it is shut down and restarted within that WinPE session. Please don't ask here for details about using that WinPE builder project which is far beyond the proper scope of this forum thread; help is available in its own forum.
Hi All I am using Macrium Reflect Free V 6.3 and have just been prompted to upgrade to v7.1. My question is this, Is the new version ready for prime time and all the glitches iron out? Appreciate feed back. Thanks Terry
I too, v7.1. On Win 8.1 x64 and Win 10 x64 there were no glitches. only once in the current session of the work is a clear flaw in the developer, as in other WinPe it can be changed as easily as in Windows, for example, in the R-Drive Image WinPE. Maybe, someone from paid version users will report this to the developer, unfortunately, their forum is not available to Free users, as well as support. Not once I read on the Internet, that SE version is installed and running on non-server systems, but, since there is no "HoneyPot" in it, I will not try
@aldist - I have been running the SERVER EDITION on my workstations since the release of v6 in 2015. There are NO DIFFERENCES in the two versions other than the "allowed" ability to run it on a Windows Server edition... the capabilities, as far as imaging and restoration are concerned, are identical. I know of no reliability/quality issues that are different between your aforementioned versions other than ones that may be included in the core product (affect all versions). These are usually handled in a timely manner when brought to the attention of the Macrium Development Team.
Monitoring Macrium's own forum is probably the best way to get an idea about current and ongoing user issues, and Macrium's release notes list some of the issues that have been discovered and corrected to date. For the latter, however, Macrium is increasingly using the MS-like statement "Various bug fixes and changes to improve Macrium Reflect" rather than listing details about each bug and issue that has required "fixing and improvement". You asked about server edition advantages and I replied that it can be installed and run under server editions of the Windows OS. That does not imply that it can't be installed and run under other Windows OS editions. It certainly can and has been -- in my own case under Window 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 up to the latest Win10 v1709 release.
Creating a Diff Image from WinPE, noticed another inconvenience. It is not possible to enter a Comments of the Diff Image, by clicking the "Create Diff" button immediately and silently creating it, and the Comments is automatically captured from the Full Image. But it would be very useful to describe, what changes were made before the creation of Diff Image.
At a minimum it'd be nice if I selected an entire drive to image Reflect would recognize the difference between that and if I'd selected individual partitions. Then if any partitions changed on the drive a new Full would be triggered.
Hi, I am looking for help after a restore to my Notebook. Running Win 8.1 x64 + Reflect Free 6.3.849. In the notebook, apart form the OS install partitions, I also have a D: (data) partition. Yesterday I imaged the current setup (Windows only), rebooted into an older image to check some items, but did not in any way make any changes. Today I rebooted in the newer (yesterday's) image, but my D: partition does not appear - please see the screenshots from Computer Management and Reflect. Now, I do not have any data on my D: that is not also on my desktop (AND backed up), so I am not worried about that, but I would like it if possible to avoid setting up the partition again. Also, I would like to understand what (might have) happened for future use. Can anybody help me in restoring my D: partition? thanks
