She should have used a separate browser or even better a portable one for an each account. Then again, she is a working girl not IT expert, maybe she should have consulted one about, how to protected her identity online, but I guess her identify was not worth spending a few bucks, so she is not really upset about it. I guess the new makeup was more worthy to her.
That would be to assume she knew how deep FaceBook digs to learn which email addresses are associated with which real world people. She probably did not know, for example, that if someone who has her sex worker email address, also knows her other email address and then associates them in their contacts list, FaceBook would link them. This is FaceBook over stepping privacy boundaries again.
Well, Facebook is very much against privacy. Ideologically, even. So I'm not surprised. And yes, it's sad that she didn't take more care with compartmentalization
Well I wonder which came first, the business model, or the ideology that promotes, supports and sustains it.
I was shocked by the article, but I'm even more shocked by your insensitive remarks, as you are not Facebook but a real person and Wilders member. For me, it was a bad way to begin the week. I always thought Wilders Forums were rather gentle and kind, but this kind of remarks are disconcerting and scary to me. I will consider adding you in People You Ignore. I never thought I would feel a need for such.
The life is not a fairy tale. People ignore problems and then cry about them and expect everyone to help them, once it is too late. I am not gonna pity selfish people.
It's easy to say that she should have known better. But the fantasy of Internet anonymity is still far too common. But damn, Facebook is notorious for hating on privacy, so she clearly wasn't paying enough attention. And even so, I can still be sympathetic with her, and ****** off at Facebook.
One thing not discussed but relevant (unless I missed it). Facial recognition could become a problem for folks that use two accounts and also use photos on them. It would be trivial to identify account holders by facial recognition. A sex worker page without pictures wouldn't sell much! With pictures you could easily identify the true name. If they decide to do it the game would be over in seconds.
Well, they could wear masks. And never post nude photos using their real names. But still, anyone who saw them naked could recognize them. So distinctive tattoos would be a bad idea
The prurience of this case masks the very real dangers to everyone from widespread facial recognition, which disgracefully extends to those who have never posted images or had social media accounts doing so. The dangers extend to LE who have shown cavalier disregard for any controls or proper process regarding facial recognition, both in the US and UK. In the UK, the police are in breach of the regulator (ICO), but seem not that bothered about that.
For now it is facial recognition, but in the future maybe algorithms are going to identify based on other body parts? We don't know whether she did something trivial to be identified by Facebook algorithms or not. Maybe FB buy some database from mobile phone company or other not so trivial things? We do know that she tried to conceal her work from FB.
Someone left a very bad comment on the corporate website about a customer services dept where my wife works. It got people into trouble with corporate. My wife told me they looked up the person who made the comment by their email address, found their facebook, found out where they work and are planning to set them up to try to get them fired.
My wife said the complaint was accurate so it wouldn't be justice. The point is people will start to realise, they better not think they can give anonymous customer feedback on the internet, those you complain about can find out who you are and return the favor. That has to be bad for quality of service in the long run.
OK, not justice. And yes, blithely assuming anonymity is very dangerous. You'd think that people would know that, by now.
The ones who should get fired are the people who work with your wife. They should be doing something else other than Customer service.Bad. If I was your wife, I would snitch, that's the right thing to do. Bo
If I was his wife, I would keep to myself because if these people would go to that extent they would surely get her fired for talking about it.
She has pretty much said that's how it is. She wont be getting involved. There are some very small minded, vindictive people out there.
It's wise. On the other hand I would record some of them to make something for counter-punching if they would turn against her in the coming years. Securely stored in home of course.
