I need to make a change with my email. I want my messages unreadable to prying eyes.

I heard PGP was easy to use. I did try looking around but got mixed results so I wasn't sure what was going on with this program.

Are there any other programs comparable to PGP out there..

The whole thing with this is trying to get people to install it on their end so it can be used.

    Thanks

That has always been the problem for all of us.

You can use GPG, which is free and safe and unbreakable (as far as anyone knows). Its standard and already included with linux distributions, or sitting in their download repositories. Lots of us here use GPG and depend upon it. PGP is no longer totally open source and the "older" versions have to be "rigged" to load on current OS's. Some of us here have our PM's encrypted with GPG as a current example.

It would probably be easier to get people you know to open an email account with a provider that does by default encryption, than to try and get them to use pgp with their existing email.
For example protonmail between protonmail users is encrypted.

Most of those sites use modern implementations of PGP, such as GnuPG. Or at least, systems with private and public keys. But most of them want to store private keys for you. They're protected by passwords and 2FA and such. But still, it's less secure than managing your own keys. On the other hand, it's more usable for non-technical people, especially those who use multiple devices.

I agree with you about opening a email account but I have to go slow with them because they reject everything.

Even doing this how do you really know your protected and who to go too? I see a lot of people mention Proton mail but I won't touch it. Only because I know what CERN is. They are scientist who are employed by CERN. I can't go any further with this, you will have to do your own research to find out what CERN truly is.

Anyone familiar with any good insight with the providers on this list?

I think Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire are Swiss based European boffins. Sir Tim Berners-Lee developed the first web server there I believe. Unless they are trying to instigate the apocalypse I'm not sure what's wrong with them.

They are researching very dangerous stuff at CERN like the Higgs bosun, AKA the "God Particle" which are high energy particles, they found proof of their existence a few years ago, the last I read about that they were going to double the power of the particle accelerator, probably to try to create those higgs bosuns (God particles) which, if they became unstable, contain so much energy they could cause space time to collapse and potentially destroy the entire universe.

It might also be worth noting, this, at the CERN HQ in Geneva, is Shiva, the Hindu God of Destruction.
