As an owner of Lenovo stuff, congratulations on your choice of Hewlett Packard. :) As far as choice of operating system, who cares?

I bought a Lenovo laptop around three years ago preinstalled with Ubuntu. I think I also had a choice of a Lenovo and a HP laptop dual booted with Ubuntu & Win 7. I was very tempted to get the dual boot as I knew eventually finding a new machine with Win 7 would be difficult.

I've never regretted getting the laptop with just Linux. I'm glad the OP found a laptop with Win 7 though. Win 7 is still supported until 2020, if you believe anything M$ says.

I was with MS since the early days, Windows 3.1
I believed in them and stuck with them for years but they let me down too many times.
    Too many sneaky little tactics.
Like a friend you invite into your home and the next day you realize some of your things are missing.
I will never trust MS again. I don't trust any of their products on a device with internet access and I will never use any of their cloud services.

Yeah right! Follow the link in my sig to see if I might know a thing or two about "classified military networks".
Oh come on! Let's keep it relevant, okay? Nobody is talking about air-gapped systems. This conversation is all about Windows based computers that have Internet access.

It is not about Linux, VPNs, or air-gapped (stand-alone) systems or isolated (no Internet access) networks.

Really? May I ask under whose authority are you limiting/defining the topics of discussion in a thread you did not even start?
Regardless of that, you said you know all about classified military networks, then you say "come on" when I talk about air gapped from the internet? Air gapping is standard security protocol, unless perhaps you believe the only valid purpose for a personal computer is to function as an internet terminal?
You would not be alone if you did think that. After all that is how they were sold to the masses, but, if you look into it a little further you might find there are a lot of far more worthy tasks that can be assigned to that little PC, other than that of a glorified TV which do not require it to be terminal to any outside networks.

No I didn't. I implied, and am now stating flat out, that your comment that your XP laptop's security "is already equal to that of classified military networks" is a bunch of hogwash!

True, but to isolate computers from hostile attacks. Air gapping does nothing for protecting exposed and vulnerable computers from those attacks.

So air gapping is a totally different topic. So on whose authority are you allowed to run a thread you did not even start way off topic?
