Yes, I thought it would be something like that. I have however, installed v8 and uninstalled v7 and everything is running smoothly.

Whats wrong with using Java? If you look it this way, all software have security holes, so are you saying one should not use any software? I have had Java installed on all my computers since 2004 and have not encountered any security threat to date. If you are really concerned with java security, all you have to do is to disable the browser Java plugin, it should take care of almost all threats coming from the web. Now obviously, you will ask why I need Java on my PC in the first place, well there are still software around that run on Java, For example, I use Vuze (Azureus) regularly and it requires Java and as somebody mentioned above, minecraft a very popular game also runs on java, so if you don't have Java you can't run these software.
I see. I thought that Oracle, the developer of Java should be considered an official source as well. I guess, they do not want mainstream people to upgrade to Java v8 just as yet, as this new version introduces new way to develop java code and even eliminates some API's from earlier versions.
Wow, I could have sworn that I replied to this post earlier today. But it´s not only about security, see post #24. Personally, I would look for other solutions. My bank required Java for certain websites, while nowadays the same things can be done with Javascript and/or Flash.

What are the differences between 111 & 112? This happens with every Java release, there is always 2 numbers, 61/62, 101/102 etc. It doesn't help that their release notes are a mess and inaccurate as heck, they seem to be written by two different people for each one, so you can't just see the differences easily between them.

Its not the JRE9, its JDK 9 - please correct second entry. SE means only Standard Edition which is for all enduser same
