Thanks, I didn't have all of those filters enabled, so that probably explains it.

You probably don't need all of them, just enable one at the time and reload to see if that filter blocks the adds.

Well perhaps I do need to enable a few more filters, because I noticed that especially on adult sites pop-ups are making a comeback, what the hell?

Which filters do you have enabled?
Maybe I can give some advice?

Thanks, but I don't think it's needed, I will experiment a bit myself, based on your screenshot. BTW, is it true there's something wrong with the newest uBlock version? It can't seem to remember the settings in Vivaldi. Ghostery works just fine, so I doubt it's a problem with Vivaldi itself.

I use only Chrome (v1.14.12) together with uBlock Protector (v12.25) and sometimes Edge together with Tampermonkey.
In the past there was a problem with for example CCleaner to delete too much so the settings were reset every time in Edge.
So it could be something you use to clean Vivaldi.

    Hello hayc59,

it looks like latest beta build is 1.14.17b7. No guarantees this will work for you, but probably worth a try :)

b7 should be OK - it is here now.

Blocking was definitely broken* recently - both "My Filters" and the element blocker UI.
I had to go back to an older version temporarily.

    * at least in my case, not necessarily for all.

at least you are using beta builds - so expect errors or go final.
if errors then step back one build. if occur then feedback at github - not sure if he spend a lot of time here, he is more writing at mozillazine.

Would there be any advantage to adding the new Adguard Spyware filter to the previously existing privacy filters?

New Chrome user here. Is there a way to hide/block the most visited pages from a new Chrome tab with the help of uBlock Origin?
    Latest Chrome version: 62.0.3202.75
Thanks for your help in advance.

PS: I'm currently using the Chrome extension "Empty New Tab Page". It does get rid of the eight tiles shown on a new tab page but, instead of an empty page, I would like to see my homepage without those tiles.

Help not needed any more. I uninstalled Google Chrome an hour ago. I just don't like it; back to Firefox.

The Adguard team is very aspired to have decent and regularly updated lists & are even working with @gorhill on specific issues, so yes, I personally prefer them over the Fanboy lists, Easyprivacy is fine too for closing some gaps.

The important thing is also that uB0 and Adguard support an extended filter syntax that goes beyond what Adblock Plus offers.

Could one use Adguard Base Filters instead of EasyList, and Adguard Spware Filters instead of EasyPrivacy. Or as well as ...

Or Adguard filters in every case, plus EasyPrivacy #3093.

The Adguard Base Filter lists says:
So EasyList should be enabled. As an alternative you can use the "full" English Filter list.

Regarding the Adguard Spyware Filters: Since the number of entries is considerably smaller than in EasyPrivacy I think that both should be used although it's not mentioned in the list.

BTW, is it also possible to block ads on YouTube videos? I have noticed they started with 5 to 10 seconds ads recently, only on certain videos.

I think so. I don't use YouTube that much, but I don't remember seeing adds in videos.
The most important thing in using uBlock is keep the default filters lists enabled and from that base add new filters if you need them.
I have enabled "Adguard’s Annoyance List" and in that list are 22 filters for YouTube.
Maybe you can try adding that list.

OK thanks will check it out. I can understand Google's point of view and they are only 5 seconds, but it stays annoying.

I am not using an adblocker now, I am taking care of ads with NoScript. But you can get rid of ads in YouTube by adding the filter:below to My filters. You wont need nothing else. I used Adblock plus or UBO with Easy list, Easy privacy and that filter, with the result of 0 ads in YT. Anyway, I just tested installing it sandboxed a few minutes ago, in YouTube I couldn't reproduce any of those horrendous 5 seconds ads, so still works.
