You can use HFS+, but I think you can also use HDM 15, that you already have. Did you try with it?

If you have an iMac, why not format the disk/partition use the iMac? If there is no extra SATA port for the disk in the iMac, all you need is an external enclosure or an SATA to USB cable.

    Mantra,
I think the best way in these (mixed) case is using a format compatible with both Windows & Mac.
Try with exFAT...or, gparted with a liveLinux

    GParted can create HFS+ partitions.

The theoretical maximum volume size is 64 ZB, the recommended maximum volume size is 512 TB. (Same size limits for files.)

    mantra,

I agree with ambralivio. exFAT is your best option.

    Good choice.

    @ Mantra,
in order to be on the safe side, consider to use Windows to format exFAT, possibly, and not the Mac.
It's better to use the proprietary environment...

An interesting observation about exFAT and internal HDs. You can only create an exFAT partition on a GPT disk, not a MBR disk. This doesn't apply to external MBR disks.

Edit... Forget the above. I tried a different internal MBR disk and an exFAT partition could be created.

In fact, I was just responding to your notes saying that in certain circumstances the format operation made in Explorer doesn't reliably work and the best way should be the more reliable diskpart command...

mantra, BIBM has 255 different formatting options but HFS+ is not one of them.

Good idea and I fully agree, even if royalty's payments should be taken into account...as also ROI.
Anyway, I guess asking is never a bad choice, isn't it ?

Are you trying to format an established partition or are you creating a new Simple partition in Free Space and selecting the File System during the creation process?
