Yep VS seems to work fine with the latest Windows 10 default security configuration. It will be interesting to know if programs like Malwarebytes Premium or Hitmanpro Alert are ok with the Windows 10 default set up or if there are conflicts relating to exploit protection.

About an hour and forty minutes to update on this machine with MB 3.2.2 (exploit protection and ransomware protection disabled), HMP.A 3.6.7 Build 604 and Norton Security 22.11. Not problems except I had to repair my Desktop Gadgets again.

Spent a couple of hours updating my laptop from Windows Update. BSOD at the desktop, every time. At least the rollback to the previous version of Windows functions and doesn't take too long. It makes me hesitate to roll this out at work.

    I've upgraded two computers to 1709. Win10 64-bit.

One took 26 minutes (didn't select Check for updates)
The other took 45 minutes (did select Check for updates which took 14 minutes)

No extra RE partitions were created. After Disk Cleanup, etc, I had 2 to 3 GB more Free Space in the C: drives than yesterday. Hibernation and Fast Startup are turned on by the update. I have now inactivated both.

I updated to 1709 Build 16299.19 using the Upgrade assistant. All went excellent, all programs running great, I immediately can tell a few things being better in this version than with Creators (and Creators was very solid for me). For example, Libre Office opens up a lot faster with this version than with Creators or in W7. I am also not getting a Warning that I used to get sometimes when plugin a flash drive. I rebooted once after coming out from the update, seems to me there are going to be less errors and warnings with this version during reboot or cold starting the computer..There certainly were a lot less Events (Warnings/Errors) produced while upgrading to this version than what I seen with some W10 regular updates. Looking good. :)

    Hi Brian,

How did you manage that? I ran Disk Cleanup and I've basically about the same as before the upgrade. I've still got Windows.old folder but it looks empty.

    Krusty,

Bring up Disk Cleanup, put a tick in all boxes and then click "Clean up system files". Again, put a tick in all boxes. It should show you will gain around 20 GB but it's never that good. Click OK and accept the "Delete" warnings.

Did that already, Brian. Still about the same free space as I had already.

Krusty, I thought I might have misunderstood. I think I was lucky this time. On previous occasions it's been like yours.

The UI its hidden, its been like that for a while. You can bring it up back to life though. Check this tutorial. I turn off WD but reenable it after updates to update it and maintain it working properly. I made a shortcut using Option 1.

I delete the Windows.old folder via Settings>System>Storage. It works nice and easy. Takes about half a minute and doesn't leave folders, etc. For this particular update, when I delete the Windows.old folder, I ll regain 11.4 GB which shall put my free space right were it was before FCU.

I just updated from 16299.15 (which I upgraded to 8 days ago) to 16299.19. Build 16299.15 was running very well for 8 days, but started to run slowly after not having been restarted for 8 days, so it was time to restart anyway.

To do the initial upgrade to v.15 I had to do a clean boot, after which it installed with no issue.

Is the new Fall 1709 update stable enough for daily use?

I'm buying new laptop and wondering if I should use this new version when doing a fresh install.
If it's still buggy, I might delay my purchase.

    Hi Bo,

I forgot about that method but I remembered I could use CCleaner to do the same and it took no time to do it.

    Thanks.

1st problem with this update. I can't open Start. Clicking on the Windows logo, or pressing the Windows key on the keyboard doesn't do anything. Same on two machines - I haven't checked my third yet. Powering off using the power button, then restarting seems to get the Start menu working again.

Maybe a sign of conflict with HMP.A?

Yeah, I upgraded 2 machines, the older one sailed right thru it, it just dragged on past one hour a little. No problems so far. The more powerful one with a pristine OS had one bork after another; during the download/install phase, I'm seeing a lot of activity in task manager but no progress and machine was actually idle with Automatic Maintenance kicking in and then Windows Defender decided it simply must run a "scheduled" scan. I had a duplicate d/l there, but a couple of reboots and it was done. This in addition to the extra updates tacked on.

You can't predict anything based on the conditions of your computers, right? Working OK, though, no big upheaval from the previous OS. Oh yeah, I said before disk cleanup stated 26 GB freed, it was actually more like 17. Fair enough. HMP Alert I disabled everything and exited VS prior to updating. When back online, I disabled all the mitigations in Defender/App and Browser Control and reactivated Alert, I want to see what Lomans have to say. No issues so far, with anything.

2 machines updated here. Took a while and one of them failed twice to install, but decided to install it the 3rd time.

On both machines it turned Fast Startup back on.

    Both done via Win Updates.

Likewise two machines upgraded successfully to Win 10 home version 1709 via Windows update, although as a precaution I've uninstalled Avira, Sandboxie, and Shadow Defender. Everything seems to be working fine (touch wood), both computers seem to run faster than with version 1703.
