Can you explain this, red section, a bit more, please.
Are you suggesting that if an invisble (background) update starts, putting the computer to sleep allows it to continue said update?
I thought all activity stops in sleep/standby, other than perhaps wake-on-Lan or something or perhaps defender scan.

It does. But, Windows Update will continue to run when the computer is woken from sleep.

Depending on the type sleep mode, Windows Update will wake the computer at some predetermined time (usually 3am by default) to apply updates (and reboot the computer if necessary). This is designed to happen when you, the user, are likely in bed. And Microsoft does this because keeping Windows fully current has proven to be one of the most effective tasks needed to keep our computers secure. And while this may cause some to complain that Microsoft is acting like big brother, Microsoft would rather be accused of that instead of being accused of failing to secure Windows. And I agree with Microsoft on that 100%.

If, however, your computer is fully shutdown or in "hibernate" sleep mode, it will not turn itself on. Instead, updates will resume when the computer is powered back on.
