Great idea guys! I completely forgot about throw-away email addresses. I have used 10 Minute Mail in the past.
The Trouble with the disposable email addresses is the anti-disposable email address blacklists that makes many internet signups reject them.
It is very stable and has a light footprint on the computer, its Ram usage is between 40 - 90 MB. i was quite happy with its lightness. I have tested it for about a week, but i had problems on certain websites that it gave me a popup window about the authenticity of this website or domain is no longer supported and then you have to click -> go away from this site or go further. Then i put the website in exclusion but the next day i have this message popup window again on that website. Thats why i returned to BD free.... Edit:will retest KFA in the near future with this: "Cannot guarantee authenticity of the domain to which encrypted connection is established" message when opening a web page"
KAV Free doesn't have proactive protection specifically against ransomware, only the usual signatures, heuristics and cloud.
Not sure about zero-day malware, since it doesn't have a behavior blocker (Kaspersky's System Watcher)
Then there's heuristic analyzer. If I'm the guinea pig, that means I'm the man with the worst luck in the world. And I'm not.
Because I have a choice. Nothing at all is not an option. KAV free blocks malicious strings in online TV streams.
In my brief experiment I can give two reasons: KAV free affects my machines performance less than WD. KAV free passes all of these test with Firefox - http://amtso.org/feature-settings-check-for-desktop-solutions/ - no browser extensions required. WD doesn't.
Problem with today malware for Windows is that technically it is often in non-executables. Is Java program an executable? No, because it is Java bytecode. You need JVM to run it. Is Firefox addon an executable? Is PowerShell script an executable or just text file? Is Javascript an executable or just text file? Is Python script an executable or just text file? Is an macro embedded in Excel file an executable? That said I had been suspicious for AVs and I don't use even built-in Windows AV, because I don't want my files to be transferred to Russia nor USA.
Frankly not much. I use anti-exploit to mitigate, updates to patch. I also like minimize attack vector, so don't install much. If I install big programs I try to install minimum required for me to do the job. I use accounts that don't belong to Administrators group. I done some config to lock down Windows a little bit, but it was long ago I don't remember much. Keep in mind that Windows is one of two OSes I use. If I would use Windows as only OS I would probably invest more time to secure this system.
Possible. But then others, like Avira, don't send non-executables to their servers. And they manage to be effective.
Well I guess I'm just unlucky because I had a popup on two machines today trying to up-sell me. Installed for 24 hours here. And yes, I did end up registering. With that and I can't keep their darn FF extension disabled = bye bye KAV.
With all those agency claiming Kaspersky spying on users. Will it be safe to continue using this for normal user? I just worried about my privacy.. Ps i dun think I have anything sensitive to for them to hack.. only ibanking transaction lol Btw I have been using since kav free since it was released and I didn't register. The nag screen open appear everytime when my computer boot up and can be easily ignore by clicking 1 button.
