Hello, Add another release, 7.1.2614, to fix: Which brings us to four releases in less than two days... Release History
Good grief! It's getting hard to keep up. To give credit where due, at least they're quick to respond when users point out the issues for them. One wonders, however, about their beta test panel. Must be a very narrow and/or indolent selection. The following links, rather than showing any one particular subversion, should always show the most recent release notes: Latest v7.x release notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/latest_release_notes.asp Latest v6.x release notes: http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/latest_release_notes.asp
It's great that we've got the quick patch functionality back, rather than having to go through the reinstall each time.
Well, we are getting a New Laptop today and will use 1 of my 4 keys to install it. However, can I install a NEW v7.0 as that is what I am using on my other 2 systems (v7.0.2199) or will it give me v7.1 that I do not want just yet?
The release update methodology seems to depend on what's included in / excluded from each individual update. I just hope that they've finally straightened out the file placements and registry entry issues (see here) for their current "quick patch" installations.
That depends entirely on the version of the setup executable that is used for the installation. If you have saved the v7.0 setup executable file that was used for the other machines, you can run it again on the new machine. However, any current run of the download agent (or any run of Reflect's "built-in" updater) is going to get you the most recent v7.1 release.
Well, I can look as I should have v7, but if I do install v7 and I want to have it update to the current v7 and NOT v7.1 wouldn't updating my v7 bring me to v7.1? I guess I can put the new one on the laptop, also wasn't there a way to make MIG work with previous Image files?
Any update request will be interpreted by Reflect as a request for updating to the most recent v7.1 release. There is no way to specify that you want some earlier 7.0 or 7.1 version in particular. As for MIG, the current v7.1 release allows users to "customise" the installation process as shown in this KB article.
Yes, certainly. In fact, you can deselect that option for allowing special Robocopy permissions on Reflect's own backup files even if you do use it for other things.
It seems that is mostly what I do any more with my systems...between Windows 10 Pro, Norton, Firefox, Adobe, Java and that does not even count Software!
Where Microsoft and its "agile" development leads, others follow within whatever bounds their own limited capabilities allow. They really don't have much choice. So far as I'm able to understand it, development agility involves firing all testing personnel and other cost centers and relying on willing members of the corporation's fan club to take on all such responsibilities, mostly, but not always, free of charge.
Got it. Thanks for posting this. For me it is just like the Version 6 but I have been dying to try it and now I can.
Yup I noticed on my i5 machine the speed was 1Gb/s. NEVER saw it that fast before. The rescue media had a change too so I tossed my old disks and made new ones.
Q: v6 to v7 Free v6.3.1835 Check for updates reports No updates found. Will v7 come thru internal updater. Will v7 Package Download over-install v6. Will clean install v7 Package Download, be best practice. Thanks
The "Check for updates" option in Reflect's user interface only checks for update releases within that major version. It won't upgrade an installation of any Reflect v6.x edition to the equivalent v7.x edition. You need to get and run the Reflect v7 download agent or else a direct link to download the setup executable file for v7 edition that you want to install. Running the v7 setup executable file should overwrite the existing v6 installation okay since the Free edition involves no license key, but I generally consider clean installs as "best practice" in any case.
Okay. When I'm ready to clean install. I've got v7.1.2.600.0 setup. Thanks. I hear ya'. Makes sense. Thanks.
There have been three bug fix updates (at last count) since that initial v7.1.2600 release. See current release notes. As some of those bug fixes affect rescue media building, you'd be well advised either to get the most recent v7.1 installer version or else run Reflect's "Check for updates" option immediately after installing the original v7.1 release.
