GOAL: privacy from advertisers Lots of VPN talk for desktop and PCs. What do you guys recommend for mobile. Currently I checked out the following: iVPN - blocks internet until app is turned on and off OpenVPN - does not stay connected PIA - lots of reviews in the App Store about PIA leaking Nordic VPN - lots of reviews about VPN being slow Any recommendations?
How does a VPN protect you from advertisers? (I use Encrypt.me, previously known as Cloak, for security; not privacy)
Actually they can. New law in United States allows ISP to sell your browsing history. Hence they are advertising company.
Alright I am now trying Express VPN. It's a 7 day trial. We will see during next week if I get random disconnections or blocks of internet access. If not, I may buy their service. I may have to re-evaluate my iVPN subscription next year since I am having problems with both Mac and iOS clients.
I also just tried Express VPN, however, it slowed my download speed by about 40% so uninstalled. I am trying Opera VPN now, its free with unlimited data, slows download speed by about 20% so will give a go to see if I like it.
This thread is good: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/my-vpn-testing-site-is-finally-up.386556/page-6
I read the tread. But it's oriented towards desktop users. Mobile is different, most VPNs don't have mobile specific app and OpenVPN is not an option as it disconnects randomly. iVPN randomly blocks internet. Proton VPN does not have a mobile app. VPN.ac looks like possibility.
I have just recently decided to take a look at VPNs on my family Androids. This would be for Privacy from Advertisers and common ISP tracking who then sell my habits to advertisers.. I have NO illusions that anything on an Android would do more than slightly slow down a 3 letter agency. As an example; I would never make a post here on this account using an Android that belongs to me. If anyone on this thread now, or whoever may join it later, finds a nice little app or client to use I would love to hear about it. While I can deal with a manual install some of the folks that will use these Androids can barely even turn them on, LOL! Further I have some data users that sit in places with wifi that is open and free. With a VPN I can remove the security risk of saving data usage at the expense of compromising the device with some hacker on the wifi as well.
Well, IVPN has an iOS app. And I'm told that they're working on one for Android. As are, I'm sure, many other VPN services. I'm not aware of any yet. But then, I don't need one
Android has built in VPN support you can find it in the wireless and networks settings. There is also an open VPN app for android on f-droid.
I use Freedome VPN on my Android device and it's working great. It has one big ON/OFF button so I don't see a problem those people using it.
OK, so please tell me more, and I will So the iOS app "randomly cuts off entire internet access". That sounds like it might be a firewall issue. I don't know the iOS app, but with the Windows and OS X apps, the firewall blocks all Internet access when the VPN connection goes down. Except for access to IVPN servers, that is. That's intentional, to prevent leaks. So maybe there's a bug in the iOS app, so the firewall gets triggered inappropriately. Maybe the IVPN server that you were using rebooted or whatever. Or maybe something else is interfering with connections to IVPN servers. Is there anything that points to any of those possibilities?
- 2x iPhones 7plus - iOS10 - VPN and LTE or WiFi connection icon is present but all internet is down, still able to make regular phone calls - disconnecting and reconnecting iVPN seems to solve the issue and the internet works again Wife won't reconnect to VPN so this happening is a dealbreaker.
Could anyone test freevpn on their phone? https://freevpn.me/ is a PPTP VPN. They say its a no logging, double VPN with offshore servers but my phone won't connect to it I wonder if my provider is blocking it or if the problem is something else. I did the setup like this in Settings/wireless and networks/VPN; Name:: FreeVPN Type:: PPTP PPP encryption:: On Address:: 51.15.151.165 Username:: pptp Password::1jMB87fEe DNS:: 208.67.222.222 (open dns) DNS Search Domains:: empty Forwarding Routes:: empty
