This is scary. Months ago I deleted my facebook account altogether. I will never use an iphone 8/X. Even when I browsed a product on Sears.com, ads for exactly the same product showed up in my hotmail GUI. Everyone is becoming the product of greedy corporations and governments. This is an era without any personal privacy.

Facebook has never been anything but scary. I will never tire of warning people off this dangerous social media giant, but it mostly falls on deaf ears as people have traded good common sense for mindless shallow encounters.

I had to stop sending photos to people because against my wishes they were being posted on Facebook.

Krusty, people have become so self entitled that they couldn't care less what boundaries they cross or what liberties they take with other peoples private lives. To lessen the odds of such a thing happening, I of course avoid FB like the plague. But I also take steps like not sending personal stuff like photos across the net as well as making it clear to those around me to keep their cameras out of my face. It all helps.

Reality, I don't do Facebook at all either and stay well clear. That's why I was so upset when I was told that my photos were posted on Facebook. You're right though, some folks just don't care about anyone else's privacy.

The photos I sent were by MMS by the way. That won't happen again.

I guess you can use Facebook to find out if you have already been "nailed" by the surveillance state or not, put a picture of yourself and see if it suggests your name...
Or perhaps you could mess with their system by putting pictures of other people and tagging them with your own name. Probably should try to do it before they make that "illegal" though.
I knew this is what they were up to 15 years ago when MySpace was the trendy thing to do I tried to warn people but no one would listen.
The thing about all of this is it is a slow progression. Take a little. Take a little more, change laws, make this illegal, make that illegal. Before you realise what they did it is too late, society is subjugated and controlled, no one dare say or do anything out of line, protest, your marked as a subversive, a trouble maker, an extremist, no nice job for you, better get used to pushing burgers out of windows.

I disagree some with that. I believe that Facebook has taken hacking to an extreme level. As the article argues, they're attacking free will. Not only are they're attacking privacy, they're arguing against privacy as an option for people. Because there's no integrity in it. It's an extremely authoritarian, "we have the Truth, and you are Wrong", attitude. And truly evil.

    Do see https://www.ivpn.net/privacy-guides/online-privacy-through-opsec-and-compartmentalization-part-1 :)

@Krusty I would have been pretty annoyed at that. These days unfortunately you cant assume people have any idea what integrity means forcing you to take preventative measures that you shouldn't have to do.

Reading that Guardian article reminds me to never forget how much of an evil meglamaniac Zuckerberg is. For now he has his part to play in the broader scheme of things but it will come to an end at the appointed time. Thankfully my anchor is sure which wouldn't be the case if I subscribed to what "his lordship" has in mind. Evil indeed and about as arrogant as can be. Sadly instead of seeing this for what it is, people have not only sanctioned such reprehensible behavior but taken it onboard with open arms.

Society has now been so well prepared and indoctrinated into the me generation, it's by and large been begging to fall headlong into the next phase of the plan. Yes the fabian socialist method is as effective as ever and served this agenda well. Afterall it is merely a tool to be used as a means to an end and that hard hitting bit isn't far off.

Until these power hungry control freaks meet their fate the more steps we take to segregate our online activity the safer we will be. The thing is the way we approach that isn't necessarily rigid. For certain scenarios I adopt the "if in doubt leave it out" methodology which suits me just fine but may not be ideal for someone else.

    Well, @Reality, that's a pretty dark vision :(

I don't know. But I do get that Zuckerberg is a society-scale hacker. Maybe that's just another way of saying meglomaniac. Taking him at face value, he sees dishonesty as the source of all evil. And total openness as the solution.

But on the other hand, he's building a wall around his estate on Hawaii. So hey ;)

USA still the best. But barely.
Technology is the opiates of the masses. And opiates are still killing peoples fortitude as they were before technology.

@mirimir totally open to what? I mean there's only so far you can open yourself before your brains fall out. :)

But seriously, if Zuckerberg thinks total openness is the solution then he's a devious hypocritical liar. Any "total openness" went down the toilet when he did/does stuff like treating people like lab rats and doing sneaky social experiments on them. So yes that part of my "vision" is dark, because it IS dark. Meanwhile if Zuckerberg does anything resembling honest, prudence would shout out - there is a catch.

@zapjb Yes technology seems to be the opiate of opiates, and thats why the plan is coming together so fast now - The PTB had to be patient at first.

I do think that Zuckerberg is at least somewhat hypocritical. He certainly came off as an outrageous user (in the "users, cheaters, three-time losers" sense) when he was first starting Facebook. But perhaps he's matured, and honestly does believe in the possibility of a totally-open society.

I'm a privacy freak, for sure. But that's driven primarily by pervasive power imbalance. The wealthy and powerful have all the privacy they want, and part of controlling everyone else is making sure that they have no privacy.

However, if there were no power imbalance, it's arguable that privacy would be largely unnecessary. I've lived in egalitarian groups where there was no privacy. We all slept together. And did everything else together. And did lots of Psilocybe, LSD and MDMA together, and shared everything. It didn't end well, but was fun for a while ;)

Does Zuckerberg code? What language? What project(s) before facebook?
Code visible for reviewing so that I can check it and decide if it is crab?

Before I get answers to these questions he is to me nothing more than lucky *******. :D
    Millionare or not.

@mirimir As long as they are part of the huge surveillance structure, I would never trust the Zuckerbergs of this world. They are mere tools. Such power imbalances are unhealthy for sure, but by not standing against it people have already embraced it by default, something the PTB are delighted about and have fully milked it to their advantage.

The basic need for the right to privacy, is an integral part of healthy living. That is, from oppressive regimes etc, not predators who want to hurt other people. Our life experiences aside (for better or for worse), that principle will never change.

I hate to say it but yeah he does or did. I read someplace he used to code games and other stuff before he did Facebook.
