Once Wd is configured right it gave me up dates every hour, I have seen people on this said forum say they get few updates but little do they know that WD on their system isn't functioning right. At this very moment I am using different security but when the new update come I will return to WD and post and image of how many update I get on a daily biases.
If you need to check how much times a day WD update just open control panel go to
Review Your Computer's Status hit the (maintenance) drop down box under security & press on View Reliability History & all is shown.:thumb:

Are "right configured" default ones or some modification settings?

The August chart are now up also, along with the report that was up yesterday.

    Microsoft doing very well :

    http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart2&year=2017&month=8&sort=1&zoom=4

    AV-Comparatives August 2017 on Windows 10 x64 1703 Creators Update.

    Full report : https://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/avc_factsheet2017_08.pdf

    Only 5 vendors wasn't compromised.
Microsoft among these five vendors, with zero undetected samples, five samples user dependent and everything else auto-blocked.

    Very nice. :thumb:

    Hi Macstorm.

    Yes, it certainly is impressive.
Great to see all users get this protection out of the box, the moment they install Windows 10.

Then there's all the additional security that Windows 10 1703 Creators Update holds, that are easily activated and/or increased in aggressiveness to further increase everyone's safety.

Plus Fall Creators Update shortly that brings a absolutely amazing number of new/further strengthened security features to the native Windows 10 security stack.

This is what it's all about. Keeping every end user safe, at work and when at home. :thumb:

You're right. 1 random youtube guy is clearly a much more accurate view of real world protection than a trusted company testing with way more samples. :D

Wouldn't that depend more on the methodology use rather than if the tester is an individual or an organization?

No. Unless you're trying to suggest there's some severe mismanagement of time (and money) going on at AV-C. (Although methodology obviously has its place)

You're talking about Windows Defender modifications, right? What modifications can be used to harden WD?

Quick question. Why would anyone want to pay for an antivirus while Windows Defender seems to do just as well if not better than many paid solutions?

It's free, ad-free, and is less problematic than others that I have used.

Because many people have a bias towards MS, whether its just because they don't like them or because of previous poor performance by WD, it really doesn't matter, WD could become the best protection going and there would still be a percentage of the population that would bash WD, justified or not. Human nature.

Does WD have heuristics / behaviour monitoring protection?

Other AVs perform better than WD in my test machine (less system impact) so that's one reason I would go with 3rd party AV. I won't mention other since it will probably take thread off-track.

It is allowed to cry at the river. Be sure to take with you a lot of tissue paper.

    Hi Krusty,

Yes, and it's enabled by default.

I know there has been several postings on the forum for the last few weeks, that has claimed that default state was disabled and you had to manually activate it. That is however not correct.

As you can read here, it is enabled by default : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...al-time-protection-windows-defender-antivirus

The issue is the zoom size, not the detection rate... ;)
The default (60-100) it was too big for you so your prefered "default" it was the 0-100 but now you applause the 90-100......

@Nitty Kutchie Thanks very much for the links. I will read the documents later today.

@Minimalist I tried lots of third-party AVs, and they did not perform well here. WD has so far been the only hassle-free AV for me, so I think I will use it for the time being (together with MBAM Premium 3, which also does a good job).
