Hi Guys - not sure if it is just me - but for the last week or so I have been having issues with daily MSE updates on each of our 3 home computers. It does not matter if it is done by automatic scheduling or manually but the first update comes back with "connection failed'" - where is seems to download the definition but not install it and it reports FAILED in the update history status ........ but on the 2nd attempt it installs it OK and says SUCCESFUL ......

    Anyone else o_O?

You are not alone ozzbadcat. I've been having the same issue in 2 computers.

Does not happen all the time, and I have not been able to find what's going on. :ninja:

ozbadcat, you're welcome! As long as MSE continues to update on subsequent attempts, we'll be fine. If it stops altogether, we have a problem. Take care.

ozbadcat, given your info, I went to View Update History, and the first installed instance of 1.249.211.0 appeared on August 17th. Since then, there have been a lot of failed updates, and repeated 1.249.211.0 updates. Here's a screenshot of the most recent ones:

To me it looks like when a new definition update fails, 1.249.211.0 is installed again. To add to the weirdness, MSE shows this System Info, which is the definition that supposedly failed today:
BTW, all my updates are through MSE, manually, not Windows Update.

Hi again JRV - THANKS for your info - looks the same as mine - lots of failures with THAT update - and I too update direct through MSE - it was set to automatic schedule but since this issue I do it manually daily with 2 attempts each time. Hopefully someone on the AskWoody site will come up with a solution or prompt Microsoft to FIX the issue once and for all ....

Well, if you see the fix first, do post back. I'll do the same. Thanks!

ozbadcat, there might be one temporary solution, and so far, it has worked for me.

    Re: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/top...11-0-appears-over-and-over-again/#post-131571

On my laptop last night, I hid 1.249.211.0 in Windows Update, then proceeded to manually update MSE to definition 1.251.392.0 (confirmed in MSE's About). This morning, I checked Windows Update first, and there sat 1.251.409.0, with no signs of 1.249.211.0 offered again. Went ahead and manually updated MSE to 1.251.409.0 successfully.

I performed the same procedure with my desktop PC this morning, and since I manually update this machine's MSE several times a day, I'll be on the lookout for the returning 1.249.211.0 definition. Before I log out tonight, I'll post my results.

ozbadcat, due to only one definition update (weekend maybe?) yesterday, had to wait until this morning to prove the above theory. It works! :thumb:

1.249.211.0 is still hidden, and it does not show up in Windows Update when manually updating MSE. Success in 2 days... so far. :)

Since hiding the pesky definition returnee, MSE continues to update successfully. Case closed... for now. ;) :D
