So this was being discussed in a recent talk where i was involved too with avast developers over zoom app.So let me clarify it again,This shield is just a addtional layer for your files it doesn't mean avast free doesn't protect you against ransomware.

The name of this shield is what is making the confusions so we have suggested renaming the shield to avoid such confusions.

Just did a scan of 100 malware samples and this new AVG scored 100%. Last scan I did was with their full blown product and it missed 8. but two days picked those up too. Default settings. these samples were dated today.

I was but uninstalled it to try the free version posted above ,Post 178 Not sure why but the install took forever in my VM. Might have been because I was connected to my VPN.

I believe that the actual "definitions" are released only a few times a day, and what you get throughout the day are streaming updates which are auto-downloaded every 15 or 20 minutes and are just a few KBs in size (AVG does not report on the status of these micro-updates).

today AVG asked me to restart my laptop and when it started back on it turned from AVG IS to AVG free . Although their support sorted it out very fast i am giving it up . It says it is updated 2 day ago. I think this is enough :confused::confused::confused::confused:

So what is the difference between Avast and AVG now that Avast owns AVG?

Apparently Avast has hardened mode and AVG does not and will not be getting it (I asked the same question in the Avast/AVG forums as well).

Does Avast & AVG uses the same/combined signatures/engines now? Will they merge the products in future?

P.S. Sorry if this has been already discussed in this thread!
