It has been proven, that you can not block it with HOSTS or via Windows Firewall, it is hard coded to Windows. Like if you use 3rd party firewall to block, Windows will display watermark.

This is total nonsense, I still think it's important to block outgoing connections.

OK, so this explains it, thanks.

Why? If you don't trust the programs you install, don't install them.

Or, if you are worried about out bound traffic isn't already too late? Your machine is already compromised, so your protection has failed, right?

    Maybe I'm missing something.

A firewall can alert you if an unknown program - something you didn't install yourself - is trying to access the internet. This can be useful.

Personally, I just use Windows Firewall, so not one that alerts for outbound traffic. But I don't feel I need much protection.

Yeah, I get that but again, doesn't that mean your machine is compromised and your real-time protection is lacking?

Honestly, basically I would not trust any programs, in Windows environment :D. Anyway, I can trust a programs for his function, but evenly I don't want that it connect to internet, if it don't need. Else, firewall need to control all the internet traffic on my system ( naturally, I use also an hardware firewall, but it's another discourse.

It will mean your computer is compromised. But, if you didn't have a firewall alerting you, then you probably wouldn't know that your computer was compromised. If you get infected, in my opinion, it's usually not due to inadequate protection, but due to opening an infected file.

My computers stay virus free because I'm careful about what I open. Not, because of antiviruses.

It's best to give only a few apps outbound access, and to block all others. You should never fully trust any app, unless you really don't have a choice like with security tools, but even they should be monitored. If you block stuff like outbound access and code injection, most malware like spyware and trojans are neutralized, even if they are already running.

I like emsisoft but i dont like some points of their vision. and some inconsistences in their discourse.First of all i have to say i agree whith this desision but i have some point who want they take in count.

Principally i think is bad dont take the user in count. Maybe a litle public survey previous to that desision make me feel i count, but no, they decide and nobody ask to us, and we are the user finally.

Second I like have no bloated software but i think emsisoft team are inconsistent most users says "Dont put all your eggs in one basket" but as i can see emsi says "dont use another softwares because we dont guarantee compatibility".

For example Adguard works well and nobody sees any issue but nobody guarantee compatibility.

Include emsi says they dont guarantee EAM works whith another firewall diferent of Windows, they say their feature to reforce windows firewall only works whith windows.

How can we make a custom security config if nobody help us to customise.

And answers like "If you dont like emsi search another providor like this are bad, You trap more flies whith honey. In another companies they say "Dont leave us and we give partial 50% refunds but stay"

On 10/8/2017 at 9:34 PM, Christian Mairoll said:
The 50% license period extension is the best we can do, sorry. Alternatively you can always ask for a refund of your paid money for the remaining period and go with a product from a different vendor.

Do not take me bad I love emsi and like their company vision i try you go well, and i belive in constructive criticism.

Try to educate us to show us what we need and what features we dont need and what add ons we can add and what we can nor.

For example i use now NVT and Winantirasom, i like Winantirasom and stop using NVT i have too Winprivacy or winpatrol firewall i know that programs have some functions similar to emsi and another diferents but i think 4 eyes works better than 2.

I use adguard as antipishing too. I think emsi must answer diferent. Not have to say.

I think and sorry for that, you are impositive sometimes and the users feel that whith your resent desision.

I take my own desisions "Stay whith emsi" and use another programs while i dont see aparent conflict.

There is no traffic control without control of outgoing connections...for me it's obvious. Why?...this discuss can give an answer
    https://security.stackexchange.com/...lock-outgoing-network-traffic-with-a-firewall
The next thing is what Rasheed said...not trust for every app because
    - we actualy don't know how it behaves
    - and the main rule - apps should work in system with only needed resources what means with the lowest privileges as are possible...what means also restrictions of in/out connections.
Lack of outbound traffic is lack of protection.

Exactly, it's a must to control outgoing and incoming connections.

I disagree completely with this. If you read their forums, you can see some of the improvement made were specifically because they listen to users.

All companies make in this way when they take an important decision about their products policy or after they acquired some other company.

What are the benefit for an Average Joe consumer to use a 3rd party FW? Control of suspicious/unwanted outbound connections, anything inbound is already taken care by the router or WinFW, anyway AJ can't even understand and even less handle inbound stuff.

What are the cons for him? Potential driver issues, slow or loss of connection.

What Emsisoft plan is to remove their FW, let the router and WinFW to do the job, and move the monitoring of outbound connection to the BB.

Then what AJ gains? Less issues.
    What he lose? Nothing.

So does Emsisoft move is good? Definitely yes.

Emsisoft goal is to make security simple and efficient for everybody.

Yes. Business is business. It's the usual reason for HIPS are dying. Average Joe is happy, Emsisoft does all for him and he doesn't even realize. But thread is " Do you like the direction Emsisoft is going? " and No, I don't like it.

Firewall gives additional layer of security. If other layers are bypassed it still can prevent malware from slipping out of the PC. I'm not sure that EAM is 100% bulletproof.

Key point is it is a rhetorical question as the answer either way won't change anything. I stuck ZA Pro on my system with EAM, and my system performs much better than it did with EIS.

Well the behavior blocker is still somewhat user dependent, that's mainly where "bullet proof" applies. The onus is on the user to apply rules via the bb at times. By the way, I disabled a lot of Microsoft's outbound telemetry connections via Windows Firewall, that's a load off right there.

Edit: It's a done deal but it seems many still need convincing and reassurance that this is not necessarily a reduction in Emsisoft's general effectiveness.

    Hi plat1098

What you edited in is exactly the reason for my philosophy. Before I trust a software, I have to trust the vendor. I trust Emsisoft more than most as I have seen over the years how the do business and how the design their software. ALso my testing of their software bears out what they say.
