Yes i buy too but i do not understand what it is, a privacy tool or what?, for me this show too many things related whith network trafic, can block programs, can allow programs but what it is?
Yeah, I bought WinPatrol. For me it was a waste of money but many people like it. I'm not speaking of the Firewall.
I installed WinPrivacy in 2015 and found it a very useful program, in theory, but it was still being actively developed and even though it didn't play well with my machine I thought I might reinstall it later when it got updated. Here I am. The Canvas Fingerprinting Module for me was the best part, and still is. Unfortunately, to answer your question, it does not work. Quite the reverse. I've used it today to do some research in to Canvas Fingerprinting (CFP). It confused things somewhat until I realised that it was 'broke', then it was actually quite useful later on once I got a grip on things. In short: It is not recognizing any CFP attempts at all by any known CFP vectors. I'm talking actual fingerprinting sites like: https://amiunique.org/ http://uniquemachine.org/ Which deliberately access the HTML5 CFP API, as long as Javascript is enabled of course. And of course, WebGL needs to be enabled as well for the code to access the graphics subsystem to render out the results. I've tested and cross-referenced in Tor, Chrome, Firefox and Brave. And on two different user accounts, some of which did have WebGL enabled or disabled, for comparison. Actually, when I say it is not working, it is actually working, but the problem is, instead of the sites being put in to the 'Canvas Fingerprinting Module' they are being put in to the 'Non-Canvas Fingerprinting' module. That's right - the total reverse of what is actually happening. It's not working. That's the long and short of it. I would email the dev but I sent a mail a couple of years back, though it wasn't urgent. Never got a reply, so I cracked on myself. It loads the CFP sites in to the NON-CFP module and actually updates in real time. In fact, when you shut Loot.com down, the cheeky fellas keep accessing your resources with extra hits. You can see this in Winprivacy, sorry WinPatrol Firewall in real time. I have the old log still in the CFP module with about a coupla dozen entries. None updated. Nothing, nada, zilch was entered in to this module. It is quite simply broken. I tried taking out entries in case there was a config error, but they just got loaded back in to the NON-CFP part implying that they were NOT using CFP. Wrong! What's strange though is the fact that many of the sites that were explicitly using CFP back in 2015 don't seem to be using them now, at least not according to TOR. I used this to test. Sites like 192.com and Loot.com explicitly call the HTML5 API for CFP. But the Mirror newspaper, PCMag, DrMartens, Amazon - none of them call the API. Weird. Have they stopped using CFP? I think not. Even Cloudflare which is a known CFP culprit let me load sites that use it in TOR without saying it was accessing the API. And this makes me wonder if there isn't some kind of leak, some new kind of advanced tech that in non-detectable. Because when I installed a certain extension today for Chrome that disabled WebGL (the means of accessing the relevant API) it did indeed disable it, but .. https://amiunique.org/ - still read it anyway. http://uniquemachine.org/ - obeyed the rules and returned no information. This is in non TOR browsers btw. Is this just a faulty browser extension anomaly, or is it something deeper? I tested sites that I know didn't work before (in 2015) such as Native-Instruments.com - they would not let you access the site with CFP blocked. And that was where WinPatrol Firewall came in to its own - you could switch it on and off and it would work or not work. You knew where you stood. It would show up correctly in the relevant modules. There's something really hooky and kooky going on with the whole show with regard to this CFP stuff. What struck me was the absolute lack of resources for anyone studying this. Most all the links are from 2014. Nothing new of any substance. --------------------------------- I just had to take 15 minutes out to reset my internet connection. I also had a major issue with my CPU flat-lining and I decided to turn off WPF. I couldn't according to Task Manager, so I had to load up Process Hacker. It still would not shut down. So I had to uninstall. The stuff of nightmares. I have a pretty stable connection and though my computer is old it works perfectly most of the time. Winprivacy is gone, never to come back. I'm done. I remember this is the the exact same problem I had before in 2015 - the one I got no reply too. Arghh, what a great program, totally let down by the dev... ------------------------------ EDIT: This is a kind of sister thread as to where I was at today with all of this. If you are interested in the field of Canvas Fingerprinting maybe you will find it useful: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/html5-canvas-fingerprinting.386179/page-11#post-2724567
@Emetic. Tnx for your analysis. I agree with your conclusions. I too have recently uninstalled WinPrivacy. It has lost its value and purpose. It needs work. I think the devs have abandoned it. Gone for good.
Nothing since May , if it's over then Why are they still offering it for sale ? Anyone here have real info about the programs being developed or being abandoned ?
The last news date back from past april. http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Spring-is-in-the-air.html?soid=1119327474244&aid=N2HU87S2EiI Probably not good sign.
Does not look good , sent an email asking if it was still being developed , we'll see what they say . latest news is from May http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Updates--updates--updates.html?soid=1119327474244&aid=Qa-xsD-jL2I
Is this a massive sell off ? WinPatrol Ultimate Bundle Protect Your Computer at All Levels 90% Off $19.99 was $199.95 This may (or not) be an indication that these products are kaput.
90% off for something no longer developed , sounds like they are announcing , Abandon Ship ! To bad they had good products that needed a bit more work . it did stop all the crap I threw at it , plus a few random drive by hits , and they tamed many of the false alarms of the earlier versions .
Not as of Dec 20 , nothing yet . I'll give them until the 28th then assume they have stopped development . Sad as it was easy to use , just needed a little work
Bought this bundle last time it was on bits but was very unimpressed with the software. Winpatrol Plus is better replaced with a freeware like Glary Utilities and all three apps have very outdated interfaces.
