Hi Topo, try setting Firefox as Leader program in Sandbox settings. What processes remain lingering in the sandbox when you exit Firefox?

You can also try running Firefox in a new sandbox, with default settings. Dont copy settings when you create the new sandbox.

UBO is not the problem. I have it and all is well. I used my W7 for a while after the update and opened and closed the sandbox many times while trying to figure out why favicons were not getting saved out of the sandbox. No problem at all for me. My W7 is 32 bits.

Hmm, wondered why favicons were missing. I have Direct Access to places.sqlite. I've now added favicons.sqlite. Thanks

You are welcome, bjm. I noticed immediately after upgrading to 55.0.2 that they were missing and something was wrong with them. At first, I thought it was a Firefox thing but after a few minutes testing I figured Firefox had changed something regarding where favicons are stored and the Firefox template had to be worked around. I went straight from 54.0.1 to 55.0.2, skipping Firefox 55 and 55.0.1. In 54.0.1 all was well regarding favicons. I guess they they went AWOL in either 55 or 55.0.1, but nobody reported nothing about them being missing.

Hi Stapp. Thanks for the link, good to be aware. But, have your favicons get deleted by CCleaner after upgrading Firefox? Mine havent.

I upgraded Firefox in my W7 and W10 today, and ran CCleaner afterward in both computers and didn't see what the guy at Piriforum described. After reading your post, I started my W7 to try reproducing what he said in both, W7 and W10. So, I ran Firefox unsandboxed in both computers, saved some new bookmarks, closed the browser and ran CCleaner. The result, favicons in old and new bookmarks still there.

After scanning W7 with CCleaner, it found Firefox Internet cache, deleted what it found.

In W10, the CCleaner scan did not find Firefox Internet cache, deleted what it found.

I cant reproduce CCleaner deleting favicons, perhaps have to wait a couple of days. My CCleaner version in W7 is 5.27 and in W10 is 5.32.6129.

Hi Bo, My link was more about passing on the info about the change of where favicons were stored and when they moved.

I cannot reproduce CCleaner deleting favicons as I don't use Firefox, however some CC users can reproduce it.

I'm an Opera (new version) and SeaMonkey lady :)

866.png 865.png seems random even with Direct Access to favicons.sqlite.
Maybe, it's CCleaner or I need to add Direct Access to favicons.sqlite-shm & -wal.
Maybe, I'll add CCleaner exclude for favicons.sqlite.

Hi bjm, I believe there is also a problem with CCleaner, probably due to the change impllemented by Firefox, but till now I have not been able to reproduce it. If and when I ll reproduce it, I ll probably untick Firefox Internet Cache and/or History in CCleaner settings.

Personally, I have Firefox History set to delete on closing of the browser. I dont know, maybe thats why CCleaner is not bothering me.

May be random when I open Fx not-sandbox'd.
Or, may be random when I open Fx sandbox'd.

I dont know what to tell you, bjm. I am not losing favicons in W10 or W7. And I am trying to reproduce the problem. I ll leave the Sandboxie workaround as I have it as it is working. My Firefox Settings for history below.

You need to pinpoint exactly if you lose favicons unsandboxed or sandboxed. Test first without Sandboxie.

    If you like, test:

Untick, 1. Remember my browsing and download history and 2. Remember search and form history. And tick, 3. Always use private browsing mode.

And your settings regarding history would be exactly as mine (except third party cookies).

bjm, I am totally convinced. The way I delete Firefox history is why CCleaner is not bothering me. I been running Firefox unsandboxed for the last 20 minutes, opening it and closing it, saving bookmarks, deleting Firefox files with CCleaner and stilll cant get the favicon issue.

Why? Because the way I set Firefox up, Firefox history gets removed when I close the browser, and thats why when I scan with CCleaner, it never finds any Firefox history. If it doesnt find history, it doesnt delete, and the result is I dont have the problem.

Perhaps all Firefox history is not really getting removed the way you have things set now, and when you run CCleaner, it finds some history, and when you delete it, your favicons are gone. I suggest you try testing my settings unsandboxed to see if the favicon issue goes away for you. Sandboxed, theres nothing to test, the workaround has to work for you.
