Reality wise, when v57 will be stable, almost all extensions will still be broken/abandoned/simply unsupported.
My message to Mozilla is : Enjoy the minor increase in your userbase now in full context, cause it won't last long.

I disagree. FF57 will be the best version ever. Finally FF is on par with Chrome performance-wise but still much more configurable.

disagree - wrong link. sorry, but that result list is BS.
    use: https:// addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?q=webextension

extension marked as compatible with v57 is from author and has nothing to do with reality.
example - look for "compatible with v57" and usable from v42 and newer -> no webextension. and there are many.
its like don quichote - and people trust this because so many times posted.
    blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/02/16/the-road-to-firefox-57-compatibility-milestones/
thats fact and not the result list

currently my link only has 72 results, there were >260 last week, dunno what happend.
but compatible v48+ also not means that it is a webextension. you really have to look inside as quoted.
maybe its a hybrid but hybrids are very rare like uBlock beta.

you really have to use firefox 57 and install it for testing purpose. or download and look into.

I'm not worried. I'll be on 52 for a long time and I leave the worry over whether extensions break to the rapid release cycle crowd who chase shiny new objects with abandon.

OK, I just did. I installed Firefox 57 in a sandbox. And to be fair, I didnt pick and choose what to install but instead, I ttested installing the first 4 addons in the list, and all 4 installed successfully. The list is bona fide.

If you want to test 57 yourself in a sandbox, there is a trick to make it work. Ask me, and I ll show you. Without the trick, Firefox 57 installs but wont work.

Or, if you like, pick the adons you like me to test to see if they install successfully. :)

This is is how my current extensions look like.

Something I like a lot is the one click button to open Bookmarks as a sidebar is back. And the square tabs, I like it, getting away from the Chrome look, square is how my current Firefox looks.

I like CTR - let's hope the developer repackages it as a Web Extension for FF 57.

I doubt its gonna happen. The developer said his addon is gonna be discontinued. And to be perfectly honest, Firefox going back to square tabs and bringing back the Bookmarks sidebar with one click, me personally, I can live without it. I ll miss placing tabs below the URL bar and the Addon bar (bottom) which is where I place NoScript but I can get used to that. I dont like using the word hate but I ll make an exception, I hate the Chrome look and how it functions, it seems to me Firefox is getting away from that in a way, despite the extensions being more similar.

For people who like the pre-Australis interface, there's Pale Moon and on the Chrome side, the Cent Browser.

From what I understand, Aris (the developer) is finishing up with CTR and moving to Vivaldi.
Read some posts in the CTR thread on the mozillaZine Forums.

Aris also links to this post in the forum.

To use legacy extensions through summer 2018, switch to the FF ESR channel.

Is it true you can't use FF 55 profile on the ESR Branch?

In my view, browsers that dont follow Firefox's move to WebExtensions are not going to survive. Even Palemoon, is moving. I read a tread at the PM forum where the developer said they are going to have 2 versions of PM. One as is, and the other one will use WebExtensions. Personally, for me, moving to another browsers, ESR, or whatever, is out of the question. I like Firefox, and despite the changes, I like what I see. In fact, I love some of the changes. And my favorite addon is gonna be fine, same as number 2. What else do I want? Nothing. :)

According to Aris, yes. If you're going to move to FF 52xx, create a new profile to make sure your legacy extensions aren't broken.

    OK.

I've just successfully imported my Cyberfox profile into FF 52.3.0 (x64) ESR. :thumb:

I don't need most of the new features Mozilla are putting in FF so ESR suites me for now.

On my second machine I uninstalled FF 55 and installed FF 52.3.0 and all bookmarks and extensions work just fine, so I don't know where that story came from.

I think if you plan to stick with Firefox when it turns 57, it is better to start afresh.

I noticed the ESR version was slower on my machines, then I found that multiprocess had been enabled. As soon as I disabled that in about:config FF ESR was quick as ever. Perhaps an extension compatibility issue.

One more reason why I'm starting to dislike FF.

Cyberfox 52xx is basically FF ESR with a different skin.

I am aware of that. That's why I had no problem deciding to install FF ESR.
