Thanks for the heads up! Good move I think. They both will benefit. Piriform folks will have more resources available and Avast will somehow incorporate CCleaner functions in their applications. As long as CCleaner will be kept separately what is stated in the announcement I'm OK with this acquisition.
time will show - i remember when AVG aquired Tuneup, what they made of it, its aggressive and annoying marketing.
Not a good new. We saw many acquisitions, especially in security softwares market, and they all led to the disappearance of the acquired program or to the incorporation in the pay product. In this case pessimism means realism.
Piriform developers should prepare themselves for a 're-education'. Avast is now in charge. Whatever Avast's corporate strategy is, it will engulf Piriform. To believe that Piriform will remain totally separate from that strategy is absolute folly. Piriform products may or may not be absorbed into existing Avast products, nobody knows right now. Newly acquired products will be developed and marketed by those calling the shots. When companies look around for companies to acquire, they are looking for the ones that will enhance their position in the market, and then they look at how best to monetize them. I would suggest that those who use CCleaner to pay particular attention to the EULA on the next upgrade and every upgrade after that.
I guess ccleaner will become boatware just like other software for me it's the time to find an secure and trusty alternative to ccleaner after years

That's how you get rid of our lifetime licenses. I have also been a user for a very long time. This ticks me off.
Remarkably, for the first time I just had an outgoing internet connection from CCleaner Portable....with the latest update. I can`t imagine it`s a coincidence. (rolled back to 5.28 - quiet)
I'm not sure there's a need to jump ship to a competing product just yet. Wouldn't it be better to stay with CCleaner and continue using it until we see what happens? If Avast/Piriform decide to do something drastic like absorb it into another product which isn't to your liking then I'd say you could switch.
I never thought that CCleaner would die such a quick death. Such a shame. Avast will dirty this up quick, sadly. I've kept a close eye on BleachBit for years now and kept up with their development builds. They've got a slower pace of development, but certainly greener pasture now.
On this era of rampant capitalism one shouldn't be surprised. One day we might wake up and realize Wilders devoured Malwaretips in only one mouthful. /j-k
