Oh, wow! I guess that's a real good reason. I was going to use DefenseWall but its not supported anymore.

Any suggestions on a replacement for DefenseWall? I spotted a program named Spyshelter. It had some nice features. Would this be a suitable replacement for DW?

    Thanks for the heads up!

I wonder if Hitman Pro Alert gets a long with Spyshelter and Eset?

I think that was actually well deserved, considering shady tactics by Malwarebytes. I would rather pick SpyHunter over Malwarebytes now.

SpyHunter has issues with false positives and has performed very badly when tested. Also a number of affiliates of SpyHunter publish dubious malware removal guides which encourage you to purchase it to remove harmless PUPs which you can remove yourself from Add/Remove Programs.

The same thing Malwarebytes does now, but way worse, since it marks legitimate software as PUP.

Unfortunately, just like Dr Web, they've taken a very aggressive approach to detecting PUPs these days. At least, there is the option to not detect PUPs, or only warn about PUPS - so they are detected, but not selected for removal. Also, unlike some other malware scanners and antiviruses, always seems to detect PUPs as just that and not trojans or adware.

I wonder when we can expect version 5. SpyHunter has been on version 4 for a long time.

It's seven years since v4 was first released. It seems that they're in no hurry to release major updates. When they do eventually release v5, I honestly would not expect too much.

If the software is updated and works, the version number does not really matter, it is usually only the means to force users to buy the new version. I would discard it in names completely.

I have just gave it go and it shows a nice detailed report unlike any other scanner I have ever tried.
Its installer downloaded fine, unlike with other online installers, then again it failed to upload the report.
I like, that offers HOSTS protections and also a custom DNS, most AVs omit important details like that.

EDIT: Uninstall took 2 reboots and I have not found a single file or a leftover in registry, that is pretty impressive.

I like that SpyHunter gives you their real-time protection for free. I tried it for a bit, but it kept detecting my extensions (Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin). I reported it to Enigma via their Help Desk and they said they would fix it in a future definition update. I don't think they fixed the issue though. I'm going to install it again.

that was always the major critism. spyhunter IMO never had a free version like MBAM to remove malware although there a re lot of sites which offers a removal description and after that an ad for mbam.

ps they beat emsisoft? not fore sure.

So two wrongs make a right?
You got it backwards. It was Enigma's tactics long before Malwarebytes that prompted MB (and others) to declare SpyHunter as rogue and potentially malicious. And Malwarebytes does not now, and never did intimidate users to purchase anything in order to remove found "issues", including PUPs. And MB makes it easy for users to manage PUPs from "Always detect", "Warn User", to "Ignore Detections" completely.

Let's not forget that Enigma did not just sue Bleeping Computers, but Quietman7, a "volunteer" poster at Bleeping Computer who simply compiled a list of reviews of SpyHunter. He did not even express his own opinion. And because QM7 was a volunteer and not a BC employee, he had to hire his own legal counsel at his own expense.

How would you like it, TairikuOkami, if Malwarebytes sued you for libel over your comments about Malwarebytes you made above? Would you not feel your right to express your opinion was being trampled on?

If I were paid by some company to blackmail another by false claims, it would be well deserved.

  So now you are accusing QM7 (a poster like you on a forum like Wilders) of blackmail? Wow! You got problems. Take off your tinfoil hat and seek some help. I know QM7. He was not paid to say anything and in fact, is such a respected poster, others stepped up to help him pay for his legal expenses. That hardly sounds like someone who was paid to blackmail another.

For everyone else, do your own home work. Use Bing Google to learn the truth and don't listen to people who don't know what they are talking about.

I did not say any names, you did, it was meant as an example, that there is always something. But I do not like Bleeping Computers nor Malwarebytes, they have got history.
