Hehehe, we are down to the basics ;). Usability is VITAL, and that is what we are discussing. I can tell you, that most people (especially novice and average users) relate extremely well with VS, and "get it" right away. So we probably will not be changing much, but it is fun to think about... you never know what someone might come up with.

But yeah, we need to keep VS as simple as possible. But there are certain things that are absolutely vital, and most usability tweaks can be implemented without making VS more complex.

I think I figured out a way to have per user settings... but 5 minutes after I started to write the code, I was totally side tracked today, but I will get to it (and a few other issues) asap.

My favorite feature is that you can hide the big-*** shield. The small icon in the notification area changing colors works well for me! :thumbd:

Thank you... but can you please send me the DeveloperLog.log instead of the UserLog3.dat? I looked at the screenshots you sent, and it looks like some kind of access problem... it should be easy to fix.

We will probably be keeping our patented toggling desktop shield gadget... only 3 users have complained about it in 6 years, so I am under the impression that most people appreciate its benefits ;).... which are:

    1. It makes the user feel safe, knowing that their computer is locked when they are about to click on something that might be spooky
    2. It gives the user easy access to the locking mechanism and its options
    3. It informs the user of the status of the lock at all times
    4. It allows the user to drag and drop files to it, for analysis with the blacklist scan and our next-gen grade Ai.

BTW, I am getting close to wrapping up the next version... it should be ready in the next 1-3 days. There were 3-4 bugs that I am fixing, and I am also speeding up the blacklist and Ai analysis by streamlining it... this will speed things up a lot in general.

I also finally found and fixed the memory leak issue!!! It was really not an issue, unless you were testing VS with thousands of samples all at once... in which case VS's memory utilization would slowly but steadily increase. It was the "ApplicationWhitelistAuditor.exe" test that finally inadvertently revealed the source of the memory leak.

BTW, the VS upgrade prompt that used to be hidden from other windows should be fixed now as well. But you will not notice that it is fixed until the NEXT upgrade... since this upgrade uses the old code ;).

@VoodooShield Dan, sometimes when I boot my laptop VS starts in another mode than I normally use.
I normally use autopilot mode, but tonight after startup VS was in smart mode. Other times VS is in training mode after startup.
    Have you seen this before?
By the way I always hide the shield.
I like a clean desktop with a beautiful Bing background :D

I find that making the shield almost transparent works well for me. You can see it but it is not intrusive as it is when in default mode.

BTW, that icon in my post was supposed to be a thumbs up. I think my thumb accidentally hit the thumbs down. Overall my testing with VoodooShield has completely met my expectations. And not complaining about the shield, since it can be hidden. Plus I still get the benefits of #1-3 using the small icon in the taskbar notifications. I dragged it out of the hidden area so that is is always visible! :thumb:

    New version sounds great, thanks!

    Hi Gandalf_The_Grey,

I see that when I run PrivaZer and check the box for it to shut down my machine after cleaning. Do you use PrivaZer?

Grrr! I've been using Windows since 3.1 and NEVER appreciated that it's possible to drag hidden icons to the task bar rather than using the customise menu.

    Hi Krusty,

I use CCleaner daily and PrivaZer after Windows Updates, but I haven't checked the box for shutting down after cleaning.
Thanks for the tip, it could be that one of those programs is interfering with VS.

I've mentioned it a couple of times to Dan but I don't think he's been able to reproduce it so far.

I tried the desktop icon initially but could not find a place it was not in the way, even translucent, so now just keep it hidden.

I saw such a recommendation today, at a certain point in the update process to MR 7.0.2199.
Although I am usually too lazy or forgetful to do so, the recommended procedure when installing software is to give the installer an initial scan with VS, and if it comes out clean, to put VS in disable/install mode. If you forget to turn it back on afterwards, not to worry, you will get a reminder a few minutes later.

    Same here: taskbar.JPG

Hide the shield and show VS in the taskbar.

+1 BUT... for the paid edition only. Keep the desktop shield for the free edition. Don't allow it to be hidden.

I remember when I first tried VS and saw the shield. I didn't realise you could hide it and immediately removed VS. Months later, having noticed the growing thread, I tried it again to see whether I could hide the shield. It was only then that I realised I had been a tad hasty and should have looked a bit further. If it's not allowed to be hidden, I think a lot of users will uninstall VS.
