A new stable version has been published.
    Everything v1.4.1.877 (7 Jun 2017)
    http://www.voidtools.com/
    Everything.Search.Window.png

It can be installed or it can be used as a portable app. The installer is also available as a MSI-version (.msi)
If Everything is being used as a portable app and to prevent the database from being saved to hard disk, the command-line option "-nodb" can be used:

Not all settings are available in the GUI.
A listing and explanation of these hidden settings: http://www.voidtools.com/support/everything/ini/#hidden_settings

To prevent the deleting or renaming of results (it can happen by mistake) within Everything, these options can be used:
    allow_delete=0
    allow_rename=0

There are more options listed in the above link (hidden settings)
I have tried all other alternatives, but i always returned to Everything.
It is my preferred choice of finding files.

And with the new feature "Fast sorting" (Everything options - Indexes - Fast size sort / Fast path sort, ...), millions of files can be sorted very fast.
Right after clicking of a column the files are sorted
Some more alternatives which can display changes in realtime:
MasterSeeker - Incredibly Fast File Search Engine
    NeoSearch
SwiftSearch - Searches NTFS volumes almost instantly
Wise JetSearch - Free Local File Search Tool

To find the 1000 largest files/folders:
WizTree - WizTree finds the files and folders using the most disk space on your hard drive

Even more alternatives, but changes are not monitored in realtime:
Locate32 - Locate32 finds files and directories based on file names.
Index Your Files - Search Files for Windows with Advanced Features using Index Files

A good combo is Everything + Total Commander.

Folders and Files can be opened in Total Commander.
*) After doubleclicking of a folder in Everything the folder is opened in Total Commander.
*) Rightclick on a file + "Open Path" = the file is opened in Total Commander
To achieve this the following must be changed:
"Open (Files)" can also be used for this, but if i doubleclick a file in Everything i expect it to be opened with the appropiate application not the filemanager.

I downloaded and quickly reviewed the portable Everything program. I didn't see that they have added the ability to search for a word within a document file. Since I am not at work, I also wasn't able to verify if it can scan files across network shares. Those are two things that are important for me. For my purposes, while Everything is a great program, I prefer Locate32 or Agent Ransack. Both Locate32 and Agent Ransack have the ability to search for words within a document and can scan across network shares.

Quite agree. That would be a very welcome advance within Everything with those additions. Perhaps a handful of us who are interested to learn if there might be an update to those features can contact them to share the concerns.

Locate32/Agent Ransack are a pair of long tried n tested favorites on this end stretching as far back as Windows 98 which do exactly what's expected. Another one, a deutsch favorite some might still find useful for searching words/parameters etc. is InfoRapid http://www.inforapid.de/html/searchreplace.htm

Everything can't interpret file formats document files (like Agent Ransack which has "Support for popular Office formats including Office 2010 and OpenOffice.") but it is able to search the content of files.

I stand corrected. However, apparently you need to do some type of indexing to utilize this feature.

Thanks for the update, mood! Everything is an excellent piece of software. That's rare these days...

Which version (x64 / x86) should we run on Windows 7 x64? I always download x86 because it's smaller. Are there any advantages using the x64 version?

You might reach the limit if you have a lot of files and folders. Then you need to use the 64-bit version.
And the more options you tick in "Everything Options - Indexes", the more memory it needs and you will reach the limit earlier.

As long as you don't have a lot of files/folders it should be no problem to run the 32-bit version (advantage: it consumes less ram than the 64-bit version)

This is 100X better than windows search, searches are instantaneous and no harmful I/O on the disk from indexing
