    where does Sandboxie.ini reside?
    documentation states C:\Windows or C:\Program Files\Sandboxie
    https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?SandboxieIni

    I'm finding Templates.ini.
    Is Sandboxie.ini with Templates.ini?
    Is Sandboxie.ini with SbieIni.exe?

My habit has been to Copy or Save As > Sandboxie.ini < upon Sandboxie version update. Thinking, backup ini ....just in case.
Now wondering, would I or could I .... ever import/paste saved Sandboxie.ini content.
    Thanks

Yes ... found Sandboxie.ini ... now ... senior moment passed :isay:.
So, would import/paste saved Sandboxie.ini content to C:\Windows\Sandboxie.ini be okay since, "As a general rule, manual editing of the configuration file is discouraged".
    Thanks

Pasting a copy you saved in the past of your Sandboxie.ini in C:\Windows is something you can do to replace a corrupted Sandboxie.ini.

Personally, I dont save a copy, never have. In fact, in all the years I used Sandboxie, my Sandboxie has never gotten corrupted. I never even had to uninstall reinstall SBIE.

Something you dont want to do is take a copy from one computer and use it in another. Or, for example, from a W7 to a W10. That would be bad.

sandboxie.ini is very easy to change with some notepad if some know where to screw - and then to reload it. and i can use it for several system (c&p), thats great, no effort maximum usability.

You can edit your settings Via Sandboxie control>Configure>Edit configuration.

When you click Edit configuration, Sandboxie.ini opens up using Notepad. There you can edit it. You can make changes there that can not be made via UI. In its beginnings, this via was the only way to change settings. Later, the UI was introduced for convenience.

yesterday I had some issues with my computer and needed to install some new programs. I did not want to deal with sandboxie at the time but could not find a simple way to shut down the program. While I know how to override Sandboxie by rightclicking the task icon or setting a longer time for programs to be opened unsandboxed by opening the program, is there no completely shutdown function that will survive a reboot? It seems exit only shuts down the task bar icon but not the program?

Disabling the Sandboxie service is what you need to do.

Go to Services. You can click Start button, and type there Services. That get you there quickly. Once in Services, look for Sandboxie services. And change Start type to Disable.

I am not sure exactly why you need to disable Sandboxie completely. Perhaps instead you could do this:

Navigate to Sandboxie control>File>Disable Forced programs, there where it says "Temporarily Disable Forced Programs For", change the number to one that will allow you to do whatever you need done without Sandboxie interfering in any way.

When I disable SBIE is never for more than a few minutes but I have that number set at 60000 seconds. But remember, if you reboot, Forced programs are set to go again. Next time you disable Forced programs, you can do it via right clicking the Sandboxie icon. Time off remains set as set earlier.

Bo, I have done it the way you do it before but sometimes I would like to just not have a program run and interfere. I will keep a note of your other suggestion re services, just in case. - thank you

    Hi Beethoven

As much as I install and uninstall there's no way I see that SBIE should interfere. Something strange is going on, unless you are trying to install in the sandbox folder

You really shouldn't have to disable the SBIE service. Like Peter I cant see how SBIE is interfering, specially after disabling Forced programs. Explain a little more, so we can help. :)

to be honest, it's not really me getting frustrated but sometimes a colleague of mine is doing things and he gets totally frustrated when his installations don't work, so in these cases when I am not around to do this myself but assist over the phone and assuming I know what he installs I would rather Sandboxie not getting in the way. If you have set up Sandboxie to sandbox every browser as well as the download folder, then you need to know that any downloaded file from the download folder will be installed sandboxed. So once he closes the browser and last running process in the sandbox, he suddenly finds it's all gone. He does not appreciate that. For me, disabling temporarily is fine.

Sounds to me like this a two part sort of thing :).
Part 1. Whenever your friend is going to run an installer located in the Forced Download folder, he can either disable Forced folders or move the installer to a location that's not forced, like the Desktop.

Tell him to get used to how Sandboxie works. If the downloads folder is forced, any installer placed there will run sandboxed if executed. thats how Sandboxie works, protect.
Part 2. On this here, the sandbox can be set not to delete on closing. Tell him to go to Sandbox settings>Delete Invocation, and untick, "Automatically delete contents of sandbox" in sandboxes used for installing programs.

Bo, that assumes that the other party wants to learn how this works. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I have set up sandboxie as described above and like it that way (auto delete) and download folder protected but if he has to access a pc that I normally use, he just gets very impatient. As for Sandboxie I have given up on trying to teach him and he has given up telling me that all these programs just make life more difficult than necessary.

I guess your friend dont want to learn. I don't forget how it was for me before Sandboxie. I used to spend hours a week doing boring scans (I used to baby sit them). Whenever I was doing what I like to do in the internet if something funny or strange happened, I used to stop doing what I was doing and do a scan, or two or three. And what I was doing, that was history, no more. And the stress level? About 9.

After Sandboxie. All of that came to an end. No more funny things, all of the sudden strange things didn't happen anymore. I scanned less and less and after a while, I stopped using real time antivirus or on demand scanners. Last time I ran an scan was about 500 days ago. Thanks to Sandboxie now I have a lot more time to do what I like when using the computer. And the stress level now? about 1.

Bo, I fully appreciate your position. I still use real-time scanners running in the background but knowing that sandboxie is protecting my back and images are available if necessary, does make me feel a lot more relaxed in what I do. Having said that, Sandboxie is not the easiest product to learn - there is a bit of a learning curve for how to use SB and you need to be willing to spend some time to better understand it even if you leave most things on default. I feel comfortable now in how I use it but I doubt there is anyone around (apart from Tzuk if he still follows his baby) who is quite as familiar with all the options as you are.
