I have a laptop that Hard Disk Sentinel won't read my drive.
The laptop uses Intel Rapid Storage Technology to combine a 32GB mSATA drive with a Hitachi Travelstar hard drive to increase performance. It is a fairly common setup on laptops.

I am thinking that Intel Rapid Storage Technology may be the problem. Is there a way to get Hard Disk Sentinel to work with my setup?

So far, have yet to need the DOS version. Been running the Windows version (Pro) since 2012.

Excellent program... and it's a superb tool for testing a new HDD... even better for testing and revitalizing old and refurbished drives.

Recently picked up several refurbished Hitachi Ultrastar 3 TB drives (7K4000 series). Ran the following tests on each drive:
    1. Short Self-Test....................(1 min)
    2. Extended Self-Test.............(7 hr)
    3. Read Surface....................(13 hr)
    4. Reinitialize Disk Surface...(17 hr)

All blocks tested Good... now I feel pretty confident about using those refurbished drives.

That's sounds quite possible... your best bet would be to contact the developer. He's very prompt in responding.

Either try sending him a message via the Contact Form or via email: info@hdsentinel.com Or you can post on HD Sentinel Forum

P.S. The developer maintains a listing of external hard disks, adapters, docks and enclosures that properly pass on "temperature, health and complete S.M.A.R.T. information"
    Compatible external hard disks, enclosures

Noticed in the forum that he will really appreciate users sending him a report ("File" > "Send Test Report to Developer") that are using HD Sentinel with external devices so he can evaluate their compatibility. Just sent him a report with a HDD in my primary USB 3 dock

A little story that happened to me today a couple of hours ago... :argh:

I started an RMA process with Kingston Mexico after purchasing a SA400S37120G SSD since last week. Just by chance I started re-initializing an old 2.5" HDD I want to use in this new machine I am building using HD Sentinel to restore the surface. Doing that and the SSD was also plugged in, and guess what, HD Sentinel reported a Health status of 0%, failure predicted...:eek::eek::eek:

After having a phone conversation with Kingston's technical support and sending all required infos to them, @mood posts this new version 5.30 and guess what I found in the changelog above:
Short story: I was laughing with the representative via phone. The *** **** SSD is healthier than my daughter's new dog. :cautious: :D

    Good good timing @mood :thumb:

Great story. Not the first part of course, but the latter. Nothing curls a user's toe worse than seeing warning signs of imminent drive failure. In this case of yours, it was a false alarm, but an alarm at the time nonetheless. Whew

    Thank you, mood
I don't recall the procedure of updating. I do recall some warning note about don't update because then it becomes a trial for 30 days.
On Windows10 I currently have 4.71 also from bitsdujour. Should I uninstall it first before putting in 5.20?
I pushed v4.71 over to XP and it works great.

@act8192 You don't have to uninstall before installing the new version (which is the case for most software). The new version will install as a trial, but of course, you will be get the license key for the new version form bitsdujour, to register it again.

Thanks. But just to clarify - on v4.71 when I click about it says it's registered to bitsdujour, and I don't recall that there was a 30day trial but that was a year ago or so. I ask because 4.71 is working and I just don't want to cause me trouble.
