Ok thanks for the link although the LAST REPLY (gotta read those too) WAS WAY BACK IN 2012? Thanks for the page though describing it with screenshots and explanation. Nonetheless or worse for wear the ChkDsk completed followed up with spotfix for whatever error completely seized up Macrium near the finish line from completing task and prompted these tools for a run. EDIT: Ran into exactly the issue and repeated above steps and this is what's going on. I will run a zero wipe x2 in hopes this piece of metal might last just awhile longer but what do you think?
Still no sign of the hourly snapshot schedule feature? Any hints as to when it may be incorporated? Have most of the bugs been worked out of the latest paid version at this point? I am interested in 2 features in particular,,,,,the hourly schedule and the rapid restore protocol (cant remember what its called)
The clone feature in Reflect is superb. Hard Disk Sentinel was telling me that my SSD was getting tired, so I cloned it to a new and bigger one and away I went. By the way... I'm using v6. I didn't like v7 at the time.
With an external drive, I had similar issue that CrystalDiskInfo screenshot shows. What I did to solve the issue: 1- Used 'chkdsk' ~ Not solved the issue! Bad sectors remained... 2- Used 'Macrolit Disk Scanner' ~ Confirmed Bad sectors remained... 3 - Used 'PuranWipeDisk' with 'Wipe Disk Free Space', 1 pass ~ SOLVED the issue! 4 - Confirmed with 'chkdsk' that there aren't issues. 5 - At the end I used 'DiskFresh' in that external drive. Good luck, EASTER.
Barry, you can do hourly snapshots now in v6. I am on 6 and on of my machines I do 30 minute incrementals from 9 to noon and then switch to hourlies at noon. See PM
I know Peter, we have been through this before,,,,I am too lazy to do the set up and am waiting for the Devs to allow MR do it for me. At this rate I may actually have to get off my butt and do it myself though. Then I could finally get AX64 off my PC
BG, there's really no "rapid restore protocol" coming unless you're referring to RAPID DELTA RESTORE (RDR) which is already in v6. The only thing available in v7 which will shorten both imaging restore times will be the use of the CONTINUOUS BLOCK TRACKING (CBT) feature, which when enabled, will create smaller and faster Incremental images (following the 1st one) occurring between System reStarts, which in turn will give you just slightly faster Incremental restores (due to smaller images) when using RDR.
Thanks for the info and clarification. I was hoping that the RDR would speed things up for manually making a snap restores are plenty fast enough as it is. The one thing I really do not like about MR is that when you initiate a manual snap sometimes it wants to merge the oldest snap and I have had this take upwards of 30 min at times. Sort of screws up my work-flow when this happens.
I I understand Peter but everything is easy when you know how to do it. For me its not going to be a 15 min job to create 24 individual scheduled actions. Or am I missing something here in how this is done.
Easy to fix, I think What kind of definition are you taking your manual snaps against? Is it a GFS-type of definition or some sort of Incremental Forever/Synthetic Full configuration? The easiest way to solve this is to create an additional definition that contains the exact same specifications (source partitions/target, etc.) but no automatic schedules and no retention settings. Then set your manual snapshot to use that definition when snapping. It will create the same Incrementals you have now (because it's using the same source/target settings as your main def) but no retention mgmt will be involved (no merging). When your normal GFS scheduled DEF runs, it will handle the proper merging of the extra stuff you've created manually along the way. I do this all the time with System Startup images, mid-day Incrementals and manual snapshots... very convenient and no disruption to the image chain until the once-a-day retention-included GFS makes its run at 10pm at night.
Hi Barry True, but why do you need 24 scheduled actions. I run them from 9 -5, but you could run them from say 9 - 11pm. Why run them all night long. No need.
I am using GFS, as to the rest of your post I am not sure what you are talking about regarding "automatic schedules and no retention settings", see my reply to your PM for more. Thanks
I have Macrium Reflect Home Edition 6.3 installed. No problems - I back up Incrementals Daily (6 weekly) and Full backups (1 weekly) All seems well using this plan. Do I really need Macrium Reflect 7 at tis point?
At least for me V7 is quite faster than V6 when backing up... Of course depending on how you use it you may feel no difference at all.
Daily incrementals with consolidation every 15 days... Average backup time went down from 40 minutes to around 7 minutes average backup file size is also down from 10-15gb to 4-5gb. The computer usage has not changed so there is still a lot of changes going on. All critical files are backed up to cloud the moment they are saved so I feel no need for more than a daily hard local backup. Backup consolidation time also used to take 40 minutes or more. Now it takes something around 20 minutes
Thanks paulderdash and ArchiveX for your responses. I appreciate your input. I will stick with Version 6 for now. Maybe upgrade to 7 at a later date.
