Does anyone know of a program that will report the sector(s) a file occupies on NTFS?

    A quote from the InfoBahn...

"SysInternals' 'DiskView' will show you which clusters a file occupies (GUi only and not files which are in use such as system files).

Run it, let it scan, then use the Hightlight row at the top to pick a file to locate. Double click somewhere on the disk-mapping to see the details.

Not sure that answers your question about sectors, but since NTFS can sit on top of hardware RAID, it can't really know which sectors it's on. Or whether it's on a disk device where sectors is a sensible thing to talk about at all (e.g. an SSD)."

For info, the root cause is now understood and fixed. Next release will solve this very long lasting bug !

Looking fairly accurate on this end. Thanks for the Portable Version too!

Yes. On one of the drives it unfortunately displays a "Pending Sector Count" which I have confirmed with other comparisons.

The good part is HDDExpert raised the notice on this so we can make preparations to close down that HDD after moving inventory off it for repair. There are times where a full zero wipe at Low Level can clear such warnings and preserve disk. Then again other times it's just a mechanical distortion too inoperable to restore.

Thanks for adding HDDExpert to the collection of Utility/Programs and continuing to improve it's development.

Thank you ! Maybe you should also give a look at our RAMExpert product (basically does the same for RAM memory modules) :)

A practical next step of course. Fact is that memory modules in ALL units "must" be by now fully dated and needing replacing. We task memory on this end with severe stress and strain in video-flash-audio editing and that can't possibly help but to wear them out or at the very least de-optimize and dilute their capabilities.

With a fresh source of new memory, RAMExpert may very well help with dampening the energy flow from those times usage is at peak. Starting early with that app in order to assist perhaps and prolong performance even further.

    Thanks :)
