I've written a short tutorial explaining how to enable write support for Windows devices like the Windows Phone in KDE/Plasma-based distributions using the ntfs-config utility. Read on. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/kubuntu-windows-phone-write-access.html Cheers, Mrk
Good tutorial. It should be simple to get data off your device. The other reason for the security is to keep out malware - sensible in view of the fact a smart phone or usb drive can write to your computer's hard drive and who knows what's really on your file. That said, I happen to believe people know what's best for their data than the people keeping them from sharing it.
