FWIW my experience is same as roger_m, I put avira on mediocre desktop win7 (not this box) because it was supposed to be light, and I found it heavy. That box is currently running BD free and it "seems" much lighter.

 

You took my statement out of context. If you say that Avira is heavy with your system, it can be. Roger and I agree that any AV can be light or heavy on different computers. What I disagreed with Roger was his experiencing Avira heavy during multiple scans due to malware which is not what a performance test is about or at least AV-Test.org and AV Comparatives do not test AV speed under malware scanning. Performance impact is tested with normal computer operations, and that can vary enormously on different machines, hence a trial period is the only way to find out.

Roger, I snipped your quote down a bit, but I agree completely (with a small exception). To me, Webroot, Avira and Eset are just invisible. They're lightweight and unobtrusive, and they work great on my system. Panda as well, but they irked me as a company and I went back to Avira. Meanwhile, Trend, Kaspersky, BitDefender (ESPECIALLY BitDefender), Bullguard... These are all noticeably heavy and slow my system down to a completely unacceptable level. Yet AV-Test considers them the lightest. Personally, I've found my experiences are more in line with AV-C, but even those should be taken with a serious grain of salt.

 

Does AVG have a webshield like avast ?

Avast's (and now AVG's) more "relaxed", casual wording on their products make it a confusing feature list at best. Personally, I'd prefer the traditional listings:

- Antivirus
- Firewall
- Antimalware
- AntiSpam
- ******** Snakeoil
- "System Cleaner" that will bog your computer down
- Etc

 

This test is getting more and more easier for AV's to score 6/6 and there is nothing new here.This is getting old and boring IMO

 

Of course, sometimes there's also pressure from AV-vendors who are very "interested" in raising their scores.
