All fixed now. Update package version 1976. You might have to quit MB from systray then restart or just restart the machine.

    Hello,

New versions of the Malwarebytes MB-Check (version 3.1.1.1003) and MB-Clean (version 3.1.0.1004) utilities are now available to those that may need them.
Announcement, overviews, download links, and changelogs here: Malwarebytes Support Tools

"We're super excited to announce availability of an update to both our MB-Check and MB-Clean utilities. For MB-Check, we've updated this to included both support for the latest Malwarebytes 3.1 as well as the ability to automatically collect log files. For MB-Clean, this has also been updated to support the latest Malwarebytes 3.1 as well as some other sweet enhancements."

Of course these programs would be less needed if MB 3.x worked more reliably. :p

This is sure NOT providing any confidence to someone like me desperately clinging to V 2.2.1.1043 by the fingernails on my 3 computers, running without any MBAM issues

To be fair, until this bad update MB 3.1.2 had been running fairly well on my machines. Now they've solved that issue it has been running fairly well since too.

One exception, one machine had issues updating its database for a while. That appears to be resolved itself now too.

+1. Noticed that too on my primary machine, where I only run it on demand. But it seems OK now.

Edit: Actually the problem is on my secondary machine, which only has Exploit Protection on . 'Updates are not current' > clicking 'Check for updates' goes straight back to 'Check for updates' ... how do I fix this. Clean install?

Edit 2: Solved my problem, one I had actually encountered before. It was a conflict with RansomOff: We figured out it was a conflict with the certificates that RansomOff adds during installation and the certificate chain MB uses in it's SSL communications. We both use DigiCert for our cert CA but for some reason, they are conflicting. I had to delete the RO certificate and clear SSL cache.

Is there an option to disable the warning in the tray icon If I disable web protection?

    another MBAM marketing fail.PNG

What does this mean? What does it catch specifically that "clunky old AVs" miss? Does anyone have documentation of this claim?

I'm sure they will refer to Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, and their Anti-Ransomware product that was integrated into Malwarebytes Anti-malware Suite. It's just marketing IMO.

It also could be because Malwarebytes is very good at detecting unwanted software and adware, whereas most traditional antivirus software does badly at this.

Can MBAM even update itself? I'm back after a while, but used my computer pretty much every day. Still on version 3.0.6!

I swear, every time there was an update to the program, I manually upgraded it. I never noticed it automatically update anything other than definitions even once.

Done plenty of clean reinstalls for just this. *Sighes*...

*Edit: Fancy that, got the attached error on install of 3.1.2

OK, that's reasonable. What prompted this was someone's observation of Windows10 Sec with PUA enabled detecting Open Candy PUP installer first. MB didn't respond. (Windows Defender thread, post 880). So, I found this interesting since I've been a Debbie Downer when it comes to Def.. It's the marketing angle and the pressure it can put on the engineers to live up to that standard. Edit: Of course, the PUA det. isn't enabled by default in Defender, so that's a consideration there.

As far as zero days and new ransomware variants, is MB on par with Emsisoft which has behavior block? Other "clunky old AVs" like Kaspersky? It's rhetorical but if there's documentation, it would be welcomed.
