I downloaded this KB982316 patch using Opera 12.18 because Seamonkey didn't work. I used the link Krusty provided: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18770 Information about this patch seems still incomplete. One MS site says it's for XP-SP3 AND server 2008, but another only mentions the server. So I'm not installing it yet. Should I? I had no problem installing the first patch KB4012598 from the MS catalog. So far no issues.
My new laptop has Windows 10 but I still use daily my old desktop. If possible can anyone recommend the important recent Windows XP Security Patches that I should install on my old desktop computer. If so I would appreciate it very much; and if possible where I should go to acquire them. As always I appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance. John
KB4012598 for SMB was just few days back - see link here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/nhs-england-hit-by-cyber-attack.393960/page-2#post-2675078 I downloaded it from MS Catalog, saved, and it ran just fine http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4012598
Thank you JR for this link. The descriptions mention the Telephony TAPI update. Perhaps it's for Win-XP-pro? I can't make any sense out of MS writeups, so still no plan to install that "dud". I use pro and have never been able to stop the Telephony service. Tried 10 years ago, tried today, no go.
If I were you, I would enable POSReady and download all updates offered (they include security Updates that MS released for general public) - https://www.ghacks.net/2014/05/24/get-security-updates-windows-xp-april-2019/
act8192, you're welcome! The mentioned KB982316, in the File Information section, does state that it's for all supported x86-based versions of Windows XP and for Windows XP Professional x64 edition. However, it does not matter since it has been confirmed that there are no new updates to this June 2011 KB. So, disregard. Take care.
