    Nothing happens. We may be comparing apples with oranges here as I'm talking about HMPA 2.6.5 .. not HMPA 3.x.x!

    See my reply to plat1098 on version. Clearing the event log(s) doesn't do anything. The only way I have found to do this on 2.6.5 is to change the registry. That works...

    Ok.
    So the number of alerts is stored in a registry key?

    Yes, here (I deleted previous alerts and tested to add a new one):

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HitmanPro.Alert]
    "Hardening"="00000001"
    "AlerterCount"=dword:00000001
    "LastAlerter"="2017-05-16"

    The above was from my XP Pro legacy machine. I checked on a Windows 7 with HPMA 2.6.5 and same thing: I found no alert traces in the event viewer and the entry in the registry was the same.

    Unless someone jumps in with complementary information I think this is it. Which is fine, as we are talking about an old HPMA version. But I'm all ear...

    Edit: to clarify.

    For me my PC still locks up when I close iTunes and it is trying to update its library before really closing.

    FarCry4 will not run when HPA is installed. Stuck on black screen when loading Version 3b592. Windows 7 64.
    First I disabled Crypto Guard no luck, tried disabling other options, no luck. Uninstalled HPA and all was fine.
    That was the only problem I had testing HPA for a couple of weeks.
    Great program, but need my game.:D

    Did you try creating an exclusion for the Far Cry executable?

    Same problems with iTunes as mentioned in earlier posts.
    Had to remove HMPA...not something I wanted to do since I paid for 3 years.

    I have a black friday licence from some years ago which I have never activated for Hitman Pro. Hitman Pro Alert was in beta then. I seem to recall a suggestion that all licences were automatically updated? I have not tried.... is this true? If it is not, how much will it cost to upgrade to Hitman Pro Alert please?

    A pre-2016 license was valid for HitmanPro plus HitmanPro.Alert.
    A never activated pre-2016 license should still be valid for HitmanPro plus HitmanPro.Alert.

    Hi Erik and Mark

    With all the interest in Wannacry and SMB could you give us a brief description on the File Sharing (SMB) protection that is listed in HMPA

    Thanks,

    Pete

    Hey Pete!

    According to Erik's earlier post:

    "HitmanPro.Alert 2.6.5 (from April 2014) blocks the WannaCry ransomware.
    HitmanPro.Alert does not prevent the worming ETERNALBLUE kernel exploit"

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...iscussion-thread.324841/page-548#post-2674800

    The Windows SMB flaw was patched by Microsoft in March 2017.

    I remember that which is why I ask exactly what that feature does?

    The CryptoGuard SMB feature protects shared files on your machines against encryption done by a remote computer (the remote computer is infected). It has nothing to do with the SMBv1 kernel exploit.

    Assuming that machine is patient zero, does the worm then move on to another computer or has HMP.A stopped the process from doing so?

    Thanks. For a 3 pc license, does the license start running for all PCs when activated on the first machine or is it per machine activation?

    Hi

    My setup is Win 10 Pro x64 Creators (V1703, 15063,296), Bitdefender Internet Security 2017 (21.025.84), Win firewall + Glasswire

    I have a weird and really annoying issue - lately after upgrading to version 3.6.4.588 I get this message:

    “The HitmanPro.Alert service service depends on the HitmanPro.Alert Support Driver service which failed to start because of the following error:The specified procedure could not be found.”

    I have uninstalled both HMPA and Bitdefender, tried to re-instal a few times, used the old v2 cleaner app, uninstalled / cleaned with Revo, tried to install an older version and the newer 592 beta, but nothing helped

    I can see that hmpalert.exe exists in program files and I can also see that both hmpalert.sys and hmpnet.sys exist in system 32\drivers but they are indeed not loaded (at least I can’t see them using nirsoft driverview)

    I'm not using Applocker or anything similar

    Any fresh ideas on how to debug this?

    Thanks
